Survey of Questions, Insights, and Ideas

We want to hear from you! Study special topics with the pastor to engage some of the most cutting-edge scholarship about the gospel to date. Grab a survey from the hallway table, mark topics of interest and your schedule’s availability and (optionally) include your name so the first session can be announced for January!

Questions, Insights and Ideas—they bubble up all the time in various groups of the church and individually. Now we can finally start collecting those you’re willing to share. They’re anonymous, and will become available to groups or announced in newsletters to help us be in better dialogue with each other and the Holy Spirit. Grab a form from the hallway table!

Want a visit? Simply put your name and phone number in the attendance book and write “would like a visit” to receive a call and visit this week from the pastor.

Adult Sunday School Class

The Adult Sunday school class will be using a book by Dietrich Bonhoeffer titled God is in the Manger: Reflections on Advent and Christmas beginning December 1st (with devotional readings beginning November 25th). They include forty-one devotions that thematically guide and inspire us with scriptures, prayers and words of hope.

Kids Fun Nights and Youth Game Nights

Starting in September, PPC will host monthly events for both kids (pre-K through elementary) and youth (middle and high school). Kids Fun Nights will be every second Thursday evening from 6-8pm and will include activities such as crafts, coloring activities, and movies. Youth Game Nights will be every 4th Friday evening from 7-9pm. Youth should bring their gaming systems and favorite video games. Registration forms and more details will be posted soon. Email Evan at evan@pittsboropres.org with any questions.

Devotionals Available

We have Jesus Calling devotionals available for $15. The daily messages inside are both highly accessible and deep. Contact Rev. Evan if you’d like one (or more).

A Note from the Pastor

The December newsletter is going out right around Thanksgiving and I can’t help but give thanks for God’s faithfulness to this congregation and the generosity with which people in this congregation respond. Thanks to your gifts, amazing ministry has been able to happen throughout this year at PPC. Even with our endowments, PPC worship services, studies, and generosity to the community simply would not have been possible without your financial gifts, service and involvement.

Matthew’s account of the Magi shows that giving to God is not measured in sheer cash-value, but from the intensity with which it is given (see also Matt 26:13). In Chapter 2, Matthew describes Magi who came an incredible distance to bring rich and symbolic gifts to the young Jesus. Consider the time it took them, the sand storms they weathered, the other things they could have done in the comfort of their homes. They wanted so badly to give this gift that even as all-knowing astrologers, they asked the current King of Judea where to find this new “king of the Jews.”

I don’t want my gifts to the church to simply be some checks with numbers or time and energy that I take for granted. I want to give out of awe, wonder and excitement—both for glimpses of God I have already seen, and to see what God will do next. How intensely and joyfully can we give to God this year through a local congregation? It doesn’t matter whether we give more or less than the person in that pew over there.

Holy God, please allow us to give out of gratitude, joy and excitement that we may better see how we fit into the larger narrative of your kingdom.
May the blessings of peace, the beauty of hope, the comfort of faith, and the spirit of love be your presents this Christmas season!

Wishing you and your family a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
