Highlights of 2019
January - Verna flew to New York City to attend the Linguistic Society of America's annual meeting where she demo-ed Dictionary & Lexicography Services, including the Webonary platform for publishing dictionaries online.
February/March - Verna flew to Honolulu, Hawaii for the International Conference on Language Documentation & Conservation where she participated in presentations about the Rapid Word Collection methodology for dictionary compilation.
May - Nathaniel, our oldest grandson, graduated from High School.
July - We flew to Nova Scotia to visit Verna's sister and family. Nathaniel accompanied us, as a graduation present from us.
August - We traveled to Indiana to attend the annual get-together with Robert's siblings. We also visited our friends and financial supporters.
September - We flew to Pavia, Italy where we manned the SIL International book table at the Conference of the Association for Linguistic Typology.
October - Verna attended the SIL Coordinators' staff meetings and retreat in Dallas. Robert finished the editing project for the Old Testament lectionaries.
November -Robert began a new project of revising the 1989 edition of An Exegetical Summary of Philemon.
Robert's Work
2018 marked the year that SIL's New Testament Exegetical Summary Series, which Robert helped to author, was completed. As it turns out, this is a very popular resource, not just for Bible translators, but also for pastors. Our pastor stated, "If I had to choose just one tool for my sermon preparation, I would choose the Exegetical Summary Series" (Dr. Matthew Beasley, Senior Pastor, Ridgecrest Baptist Church, Greenville, Texas, 2019).
An Exegetical Summary of Philemon was originally published in 1989 and is in need of revision. Robert has begun revising it; he will add an additional twelve commentaries and nine English language New Testaments to the book for the next edition, many of which have been published since 1989.
Verna's Work
Verna continues to lead her team, Dictionary & Lexicography Services, in providing services such as, lexical data conversions and imports into FLEx, help for dictionary compilation and publication - both online and mobile app publication.
Verna and her team have completed the creation of the first section of the online Dictionary-making and Lexicography course for compilers of bilingual dictionaries.
