November 2019 Update

Another month, another newsletter!  October has been an exciting month for the CUSF. Even as school enters full swing our student run clubs have found the time to enjoy their passion for shooting.  In this month's newsletter we cover the new webstore of the CUSF, the completion of the Trap and Skeet Classic, and the recent Eastern Ontario University and College Range Day at Schoolhouse 2.0.  In other exciting news the University of Windsor Firearms Association and the Western Firearms Association (who happen to be this month's club spotlight) both hosted their first range days, an excellent milestone for a new club.

CUSF Store is Now Live

The wait is over! The CUSF webstore is now open for business.  With a variety of merch in stock ranging from polos to stickers to hats there's something for everyone.  AND THAT'S NOT ALL, you can even purchase or renew your CUSF membership or sign up for the CUSF smallbore program through the webstore.  So hop on over to https://shop.cusf.ca/collections/ today to pick up some merch and show your support for the CUSF.

CUSF Trap & Skeet Classic

The trap portion of the annual CUSF Trap and Skeet Classic has concluded.  This competition saw 16 shooters from two schools gunning for the top spot, between them 1600 targets were thrown (and an impressive 1124 were hit).  We would like to congratulate Ana Tsementzis for taking the overall top spot and Guelph for taking the first place award for best team.  A full list of results will be posted at https://cusf.ca/events/results later on this week.  Remember to stay tuned for the sket portion of the Trap & Skeet Classic as well as the CUSF Smallbore Competition in 2020.

Partnership Highlights

This month we would like to recognize 2 fantastic partners of the CUSF, both for  their involvement in a recent interclub range day in eastern Ontario. Schoolhouse 2.0 is a range and instructional facility based out of Brockville Ontario who hosted the Carleton Firearms Association, the University of Ottawa Sport Shooting Association, and the Algonquin College Firearms Club in their Eastern Ontario University and College Range Day.  Schoolhouse was kind enough to offer their range and instructional services to the students of our clubs and we would like to express our thanks in assisting the student shooters of Canada.

Another organization we would like to thank for their help with the Eastern Ontario University and College Range Day is Project Mapleseed.  As a training organization Project Mapleseed is dedicated to training Canadian shooters in the fundamentals of marksmanship.  Traveling all across the country and instructing shooters of all ages Project Mapleseed have undoubtedly furthered the future of shooting sports in Canada.  Their instruction to the students attending the recent range day is greatly appreciated.

Club Spotlight: Western Firearms Association

The Western Firearms Association (WFA) is a new club located at Western University in South-Western Ontario. The club was founded in 2019 and has started its first year of operations. The goal of the club is to introduce young adults to the sport of shooting in a safe and fun way, while also educating them about the safe use of firearms.
The club has started the year off strong, having already hosted four events at their local range, East Elgin Sportsmen's Association, with a great turnout for both. The team of Executive have been hard at work organizing and designing events to be held throughout the year, trying to make each one a unique and special experience for its members.

Moving  forward, the WFA is exploring the option of organizing events with nearby University clubs, and to connect those passionate about the sport. The CUSF has been a great help in this, as they also share the idea to bring those interested in the sport together, and to unite young sport shooters across Canada.
