2020 is right around the corner and I thought it would be nice to reflect on what I've worked on over the past 10 years.

Exploring my archives has been relatively easy to do. I have my NAS's pretty well organized so I can pull most photographs pretty quickly. That said, my Tumblr archive has really been the best resource. I was pretty active on that platform earlier in the decade so it was fairly easy to retrace my steps.

There are tons of stories and putting this together in a truly comprehensive fashion could consume weeks of my time, so I am going to keep the anecdotes short.
I am going to leave out A LOT. This will just be some highlights. If I missed that thing we worked on together it's not personal.

I think the best way to do this is two years at a time for the next 5 weeks.
This week we're going to look at 2010 and 2011.

Is this the absolute worst navel-gazing you've ever signed up for?
Yes. Yes it is.
But that's why most of us got into photography in the first place.

I hope you enjoy.

FYI This is a super long email and Gmail might clip the message. You will want to click "view entire message" at the bottom if this happens to you.
The decade started out completely crazy...

I was in Denver, Colorado for a photo shoot and I got a call from the production company Anonymous Content. They asked if I still had a beard.
I did.
Once I proved it (by taking a picture of myself with my phone and emailing it to them...the word "selfie" wasn't a thing yet) they booked me a flight to LA. They wanted me to appear in a car commercial but didn't give me many more details.
Slowly clues started to emerge. A fitting at Universal Studios... Wieden + Kennedy Art Directors... A call sheet with director Mark Romanek... An entire neighborhood taken over for the shoot... Something was up.

On set, after the camera rolled on me for a few takes, Mark came up to me and said "You have a great face. You're going to get a lot of phone calls. This is a Super Bowl commercial".
What?!

On February 7, 2010 during Super Bowl XLIV I appeared in a Dodge Charger commercial. I had to shut my phone off I was getting so many calls from friends. Mark was right (although at the time I thought he meant I would get a lot of calls from agents wanting to hire me as an actor. That never happened).

On February 10th, 2010 I spent the day driving around outside of Seattle Washington making photographs with Reggie Watts for his Comedy Central Album Why Shit So Crazy. The album was released on May, 5 2010.
Package Art Direction by Nathan Nedorostek
March 24-26, 2010 I directed a commercial for Raiffeisen Meine Bank in Austria. The concept was based on my "everyday" video.

This was my crew:

On April 3, 2010 the 1st Generation iPad came out.
My Website on the iPad on April 10, 2010

My studio on October 22, 2010. We all miss this place.
I met Adam Lisagor on November 13, 2010 and we made this video called Dueling Cameras at my favorite park in Greenpoint.

At the time, probably one of the greatest videos ever put on the internet.
December 19,2010
December 15-25, 2010 I went to China and photographed my friend Lee literally running around West Lake.
It was a story for EnRoute Magazine about spending 48 hours in Hangzhou. The story appears to be taken offline so I can't link to it.

The magazine never called me again.
On January 31, 2011  I teamed up with Adam again to make a video for our friend Will's app called "Everyday".

I still think this is one of the best and most fun collaborations I've ever been a part of.
If you haven't watched this commercial or if it's been a while, click here. It kinda holds up!

I taught a lighting workshop at Garage Studios in Brighton on February 17, 2011

One of these people took a photo of me that night that is now used as the photo on the Wikipedia page about my video (not me).
Someone please take a new photo of me and replace that one.
On March 24, 2011 I teamed up with Adam yet again!

This time I got to be the talent in his Warby Parker Home Try On commercial.
9 years later I actually kinda finally need glasses.

Sandwich makes really good commercials.

On May 2, 2011 I got to meet Marc Maron and photograph him at his house/garage.

We didn't say much. He basically just shined his boots and smoked a cigar. Towards the end he asked me if I was a Jew. It was awesome. I love him.
From August to November 2011, I went all over the U.S. and a few places in Europe for General Electric working on photos for their Instagram feed. Barbarian Group was the Ad Agency.
I think GE was one of the first big companies to embrace Instagram as a platform to promote their brand. I clearly remember HATING Instagram during this time period. I was a Tumblr snob and looked down on Instagram. In my defense, smart phone screens at the time totally sucked but I'll admit I was wrong. But actually... maybe I was right!?

Anyway, I remember they insisted on using the IG filters at the time. I tried to fight it but there was only so much I could do. I was definitely right about the filters.
I'm not credited or tagged on these photos. I don't think tagging was a thing yet. :)

Here are a few random factory shots:

There are way too many photos from this job to post here. I'll revisit this work for the newsletter next year. Lots of interesting places and stories. Factory photography might be my favorite commercial work genre.

On October 24, 2011I got to experience a private tour of Carsten Hoeller's Psycho Tank at The New Museum
I brought my friend Sheri Chiu with me.

On November 24, 2011, I photographed J. Cole for the cover of RESPECT magazine.

On December 25, 2011, Reggie Watts and I walked around a totally empty Williamsburg and made this video called TRANSPORT.

We recorded the audio a few weeks later and I remember being in absolute hysterics when he spoke the line "She Knows. We've run out of time".
It was totally improvised and it came out of nowhere and it was just so damn funny. I don't know. I wish you were there.

That's where I'll end it for 2010 and 2011.
