Dear <<First Name>>,

This week saw Israel’s gardeners "mow the lawn" for the latest time. (If you're not familiar with this saying, here is just one example of an Israeli leader using it.) Almost nowhere will you find the right analysis for the reason behind this last round of horrific violence. You definitely won’t find it in the New York Times. But what will you find a lot of? The same vapid apologetics for murder that we always see when the Israeli war machine is set loose.

It’s almost as if Biden, Buttigieg, and any other presidential hopeful can’t help his or herself. And sadly, even the most progressive candidate also comes up short in this respect. If and when pressed, which they rarely are, they will argue that Israel deserves our complete support because it is a democracy that shares our values, no matter the fact that Israel’s peculiar brand of “democracy” is built on the exclusion of more than 20% of its population from any meaningful lever of power.

Perhaps if Palestinian citizens of Israel actually got to sit in an Israeli government, then maybe it would be a whole lot harder for Israel to unleash hell on its captive population, because after all, Palestinians probably wouldn’t want to bomb Palestinians anymore than Jews would want to bomb their fellow Jews.

Thanks for reading,
