Deagon Ward E-News

November 2019

As the year winds down, the community calendar is chock-a-block with fantastic celebrations for schools, sporting clubs and community groups.

Attending school graduations and celebrations fill me with pride as I get to share such a special occasion with the young students and families of our community. I am truly inspired by what these kids have achieved and feel much hope and optimism as to what they have the potential to do in their futures. I would like to once again congratulate all of the 2019 school graduates and wish them all the best.

There has been some great environmental work going on around the community recently with events like the Ocean Crusaders Cabbage Tree Creek clean up and the War on Waste 4017 group who were joined by members of Council's Litter Prevention team for the foreshore clean up. While we are very lucky to have some amazing natural areas like our lagoons, Moreton Bay and the creek, it's important that they are managed and protected and the community is playing a significant role in doing that in our local area.

I have also been out and about at sporting presentations, multicultural festivals, community markets, and mobile offices. We have some great end of year celebrations and other special events coming up over the next few weeks and I hope to see you at some of them. There are more details below.

Keep an eye out on my Facebook page to keep up to date with local news and events.

If you are part of a local community group and want me to feature an upcoming event in my e-news please contact my office to arrange this.

Cheers

Jared Cassidy

Out and About in the Community

Taigum Salvos Twilight Market

Taigum Salvos’ Twilight Markets are always a highlight and they were a great ending to what was a huge weekend in the Deagon Ward. This year I sponsored a variety of free family activities along with Stirling Hinchliffe MP and Anika Wells MP to ensure that it would be an affordable family event.

Greek Affair Multicultural Festival

The Greek Orthodox Parish of St Paraskevi in Taigum held their annual Greek Affair Multicultural Festival recently! Huge crowds from across the local area came along to experience the delicious Greek food, traditional music and dancing, face painting, children’s activities and much more! I was very proud to sponsor this event once again this year.

Zillmere Festival

This year’s Zillmere Festival was a great day out for all those fortunate enough to attend. Guests were treated to cultural performances, local community group stalls and amazing food from all around the world. I was very proud to sponsor this great event once again this year.

End of Season Sporting Club Presentations

This time of year involves the presentation days and other special events for a number of fantastic local clubs. Recently I attended celebrations at:

Sandgate Hawks
Brighton Roosters
North Star FC
Zillmere Eagles
Kyushin Ryu Ju Jitsu
Boondall Barracudas Swim Club
Geebung Bowls Club
Brighton Bowls Club
and many more!
