DECEMBER Spoke
As the year comes to a close we take time to take stock. We recall, examine and appreciate its highlights , its challenges, its lessons, its successes. 2019 has been the year of "homing" at Threshold. We have continued to hone our focus and skills in creating a place that invites all of us to come as we are, to share who we are and to feel nurtured and fully accepted, to feel at home.  We know we are successful when we attract people who bring different cultures, races, ages, gender identities into the space and feel seen, included and valued exactly as they are.

As our wonderful SistaStrings duo commented after their sold out performance complete with a soul food meal and a large donation to WAVE, an anti gun violence organization: "Thank you Threshold for an amazing vibe for us to okay in. We love seeing that room get more diverse each time we return and the love is one of a kind 🖤"

We just experienced and acknowledged Native American Heritage Month with a powerful evening with Bill Miller, legendary musician and activist. The last of our Americana Folk Traditions will feature our friend, artist and exceptional human, Peter Mulvey. Peter has chosen Open Doors for Refugees (www.opendoorsforrefugees.org), a Madison organization that welcomes and supports refugees who are settled in the Madison area as the recipient of donations raised by his performance.

In a world where waves of displacement continue to shape our endlessly diverse human landscape, the words of Adrienne Warren ring true "We need to ref
rame the narrative...diversity is just realism...We need creative spaces that actually represent the world we live in". May Threshold provide such a creative space for every one and for all of us.

Ancestral Constellations: From there to here: In the footsteps of your ancestors. Whose story are you living?
Sat-Sun, December 7-8, 9:30 AM - 4:00 PM

History is far more complex and interconnected than we are taught in school. Traumatic events exert a force long after the participants have died and science has shown that trauma can be genetically and energetically passed down the generations.  The past lives inside of us. Collective trauma in a family, community or nation is an understanding that is emerging in our culture that has been prevalent within indigenous communities. Family or Ancestral Constellation is a therapeutic approach that allows the invisible influences from the present and past to be made visible, acknowledged and made whole. Join Chris Halas Wood and Nikki Mackay December 7-8th, 2019 for a weekend of Ancestral Constellation exploring Whose story you are living. Cost $250 (scholarships available) more info and registration cwood0@hotmail.com

Peter Mulvey in concert "Homing"

doors open at 6:30

Buy Tickets Here

Peter Mulvey returns to Threshold for his fourth concert with us to wrap up our AUTUMN SESSIONS: AMERICANA FOLK TRADITIONS.

Peter is an American folk singer-songwriter, who hales from Milwaukee, Wisconsin. Mulvey has been a songwriter, road-dog, raconteur and almost-poet since before he can remember. Since the early 1990s, he has developed a strong national following in the indie folk/rock scene through his relentless touring and critically acclaimed albums. Eighteen records, one illustrated book, thousands of live performances, a TEDx talk, a decades-long association with the National Youth Science Camp, opening for luminaries such as Ani DiFranco, Emmylou Harris, and Chuck Prophet, appearances on NPR, an annual autumn tour by bicycle, emceeing festivals, hosting his own boutique festival (the Lamplighter Sessions, in Boston and Wisconsin)...Mulvey never stops. He has built his life’s work on collaboration and on an instinct for the eclectic and the vital. He folds everything he encounters into his work: poetry, social justice, scientific literacy, and a deeply abiding humanism are all on plain display in his art.

A wonderful meal and beverages will be available for purchase before the show and during intermission. Come early and enjoy meeting old and new friends. All proceeds from food sales and additional donations will go to Open Doors for Refugees.
