State Senate Candidate Democrat Mike Brownrigg Releases First TV Ad in SD 13 race

Brownrigg breaks out of the pack as first candidate to hit airwaves in contest to fill Jerry Hill’s open seat covering San Mateo and Santa Clara counties

Burlingame, California – Today, two-term mayor and Burlingame councilmember Mike Brownrigg launched the first television ad of his State Senate campaign — the first Democrat to be on the air. The ad focuses on Brownrigg’s unmatched local, national, and international experience and results as Mayor of Burlingame, highlighting his leadership fighting against climate change, winning an increase in affordable housing, and passing Burlingame’s toughest gun safety law. The ad unveils Brownrigg’s mantra, “he gets it and gets it done.”

In the Brownrigg for State Senate TV Ad “Gets It Done” The script reads:

Experience and results…that’s Mike Brownrigg.

As Mayor, Mike fought climate change by issuing green bonds to reduce carbon emissions and strengthened infrastructure to protect the Bay. Mike got it done.

He increased new affordable housing units for seniors, teachers, and working families. Mike got it done.

And as a City Council leader Mike protected families with his city’s toughest gun safety law. Mike got it done.

Mike Brownrigg. State Senate. He gets it. And he gets it done.

Democrat Brownrigg is one of the top fundraisers in the race of five candidates for state senate district 13. His campaign ended the June 2019 financial reporting period with $460,000 in contributions. He has over 650 community supporters and a growing list of endorsements from prominent local elected officials and organizations, including the Central County Firefighters, San Mateo County Supervisor David Canepa, South San Francisco City Council Members Mark Addiego and Rich Garbarino, former Belmont City Council Member Doug Kim, Hillsborough Mayor Shawn Christianson, Council Members Jay Benton, Marie Chuang and Alvin Royse, San Carlos Council Mayor Mark Olbert, Burlingame Mayor Donna Colson and Vice Mayor Emily Beach, Burlingame Council Members Ann Keighran and Ricardo Ortiz, San Mateo Councilman Joe Goethals, San Bruno Council Members Marty Medina and Laura Davis, Half Moon Bay Mayor Deborah Penrose and former Mayor "Farmer John" Muller, Foster City Mayor Sam Hindi and former Foster City Mayor Charles Bronitsky,  Los Altos Councilmember Anita Enander, Menlo Park Councilmember Drew Combs, former Menlo Park Mayor Mickie Winkler, Los Altos Hills Vice Mayor Michelle Wu, former Palo Alto Mayor Mike Cobb, Cupertino Vice Mayor Liang Chao, and former County Supervisor John Ward, along with dozens of other community and education leaders from every corner of the district.

Brownrigg is a 10-year Burlingame City Council Member, two-term Mayor and served eight years on the Planning Commission. Under his leadership, Burlingame took the lead in the fight against climate change by issuing green bonds to reduce carbon emissions and strengthening infrastructure to protect the Bay from pollution, helped to ensure more affordable housing to help seniors, and retain teachers, nurses, firefighters, and working families in our communities, expanded childcare and senior care, and stood up to pass the city’s toughest ever gun safety and anti-vaping laws.

Brownrigg brings an unmatched 30-year record of local, national and international diplomatic leadership to the race for state senate. Prior to elected office, Brownrigg began his career working as a congressional aide for Democratic U.S. Rep. Howard Berman (D-CA). He then joined the Foreign Service where he served in hot zones like Syria and Hong Kong as a non-partisan U.S. Diplomat helping negotiate complex international agreements in Europe, the Middle East and Asia, earning several distinguished service awards. Professionally, Brownrigg is a partner in a social impact investment firm that helps improve underserved communities around the world. He and his wife, Marty, a pediatrician, live in Burlingame where they are raising their four children.

Brownrigg plans to bring his extensive leadership experience and record of bringing people together to get things done to the State Senate and will focus on the issues that matter most to Peninsula families. From protecting a woman’s Constitutionally guaranteed right to choose, to fighting climate change, to affordability for seniors and working families, to tough gun safety legislation, and reforming our criminal justice system. Brownrigg has unmatched experience - and is the candidate who can get it done.
