Out-of-state Hunters Increase As In-State Decline

Out-of-staters are becoming a greater share of the hunters and anglers in Montana. Out-of-state anglers accounted for more than 85% of the increase in Montana fishing license holders from 2010 to 2017, according to data gathered by the Legislative Fiscal Division.

NorthWestern Energy Seeks Additional $23.8M To Cover Unexpected Costs

NorthWestern Seeks Additional $23.8M To Cover Unexpected Costs NorthWestern Energy is asking state utility regulators to sign off on the company’s request to increase their customers’ electric bills by $23.8 million for one year. This surcharge is in addition to a $6.5 million rate increase commissioners approved late last month.

Moose In NW Montana Tests Positive For Chronic Wasting Disease

A moose in Montana has tested positive for chronic wasting disease (CWD) for the first time. The finding expands the area wildlife managers believed the disease to exist. The moose was killed north of Troy, just a half of a mile outside of the Libby CWD management zone , which spans a 10-mile radius around Libby. Thirty white-tailed deer have tested positive for CWD within the management zone since the disease was discovered this spring.

Kalispell Regional Healthcare Fined After Failing To Comply With Lawsuit Settlement Requirements

Kalispell Regional Healthcare (KRH) was fined $65,000 this summer for failing to comply with training requirements outlined in an agreement with federal authorities. The agreement followed a $24 million settlement in 2018 that ended a lawsuit claiming the hospital violated anti-kickback laws.

Agency: No Invasive Mussels Found In Montana Waterways

HELENA, Mont. (AP) — Testing of Montana waterways this year turned up no instances of invasive mussels, the Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks said Wednesday. Under state policy, the agency will move to lift restrictions placed on Canyon Ferry Reservoir east of Helena after one suspicious water sample in 2016.

Two Grizzlies Killed In Northwest Montana

Montana wildlife officials announced Tuesday that two grizzlies were recently killed in northwest Montana. A food-conditioned male grizzly bear was euthanized over the weekend and a female was killed by a hunter last week.
