Better is...

Part One - Better is One Handful
Better one hand full with tranquility than two hand fulls with toil and chasing after the wind. - Ecclesiastes 4:6
I'm convinced God doesn't care so much about what we have, He doesn't want what we have to have us. He wants us to be rich toward that which really matters and less. That's why it's better to have less of what doesn't matter and more of what does.
How do we live a one handful life?
Cut back, throw out, and turn off.
Here's the deal; many of you, you are going to have to say no to some good things in order to say yes to what is better. Listen, your life is too valuable! Your calling too great and your God too good to waste your life on things that don't matter!
Part Two - Better is Wisdom
How much better to get wisdom than gold. To choose understanding rather than silver. - Proverbs 16:16
I often ask people that are older, what they would do, if they could go back and change some of the decisions they made. I often here them start there response with, “If I knew then what I know now, I would have done so much differently.”
And if you get wisdom today and you make decisions, not based on the wisdom of this world (which is called foolishness in Proverbs many times), but if you make decisions based on wisdom from the heart of God, over a period of months, years and decades, you can go from an average mundane life to someone who is impacting generations for the glory of God, if you get wisdom.
Part Three - Better is a Good Name
A good name is more desirable than great riches; to be esteemed is better than silver or gold. - Proverbs 22:1
Socrates has a quote that I really, really like. It says this, Socrates says, "Regard your good name as the richest jewel you can possibly possess. The way to gain a good reputation is to endeavor to be what you desire to appear."
A good name is better and a Good Name can instills Confidence.
A good name is better and a Good Name can Speak For You.
A good name is better and a Good Name can Inspire Others.
And the good news is, that even though our names aren't perfect, there's One who is, there's one name actually that you know what?
- There's One Name that the kings will bow to one day!
- There's One Name that the demons shudder at,
- There's One name above all names and that's the name of Jesus.
- And let me just say this, there's those of you who maybe you feel like you're in bondage for the choices that you've made and the life that you live and it just feels suffocating to you.
- ll the good news is, is that you know what? In Galatians, Chapter Five, the Bible says you know what, through Christ you can be set free!
