The Lowndes County Extension Office is offering our deepest condolences to the family of Sheriff John Williams. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, friends, colleagues, and the Lowndes County residents whom he so diligently served.
Sheriff "Big John" Williams always offered support for our Extension programs by saying,"If there is anything we can do to help you, just call me." He meant it, too. Sheriff Williams was the kind lawman who silently walked in to check on us when we had an educational program underway; he was the friendly lawman who waved as we entered our building every day, and he was the man whose boomingly warm voice could be heard greeting people all along the Courthouse Square. He truly will be missed, and we are thankful for his service to Lowndes County.
On behalf of Mrs. Dianne Murray and our colleagues, I extend our heartfelt condolences, and we pray for peace for the Williams family during their time of sorrow and loss.

Hayneville Senior Center Director Mary Edwards (pictured left) helps students as they apply caulk during the construction of the cinder blocked raised gardening bed located behind the Hayneville Senior Center. The new bed is the first of many additions to the area that will be used as teaching centers for home gardeners, small farm owners, students and senior citizens. We spent much of November working with students and some of our senior residents planting fall raised bed gardens, potted ornamental plants, and planting indoor herb gardens. Urban Regional Extension Agent Roosevelt Robinson instructed students at Ft. Deposit Elementary and Jackson Steele on developing proper soil and the proper way to plant transplants for healthy growth. Students work with their science teachers in monitoring growth and charting how their gardens are producing! We also enjoyed creating holiday arts and crafts!
