Dear All,

Firstly, I would like to thank you for your continued support, not only to the school, but to recent events and charity days.

We have had a successful McMillan Coffee Morning and Cake Sale, Road Safety Week, Anti-Bullying Week as well as supporting the Royal British Legion with their annual Poppy appeal.  Just before the half term we had a lovely Harvest Assembly - the children sang beautifully and read clearly and it was lovely to receive so many food donations which were passed onto the FIND charity in Ipswich. In early November, we welcomed over a thousand people for our Annual Firework event and in the coming weeks we have our weekly sharing assemblies, Nativity and Carol Service. We look forward to welcoming you and your family and friends at these events.

If you have any questions, about anything happening in the school, please speak to one of the teachers or myself.

Many thanks
Mrs Karen Bilner
Headteacher

NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

Here's a snapshot of what has been going on in school. Don't forget that regular news and updates are posted on our website and Facebook pages.

The Woodpeckers have been comparing objects from the past in their History lessons (whilst learning about The Gun Powder Plot). The children have been comparing how we would send messages to somebody now, and how they would have been delivered in 1605. They learnt that technology helps us a lot now and was not around then. The children were very interested in how people used to write with a quill and ink in 1605.The children learnt that a mysterious letter was sent to Lord Monteagle (who was due to attend Parliament on November 5th) warning him not to go to the Houses of Parliament on that day as there would be ‘a terrible blow’. The letter gave no signature <Read More>

The theme for Anti-Bullying Week this year is ‘Change Starts With Us’. The children have taken part in assemblies across the week and discussed how we can all make small changes to the way we behave towards people we perceive as ‘different’ in order to celebrate difference and create a kinder world. We also took part in National Odd Socks Day to raise money for Childline. The children wore odd socks on Tuesday 12th November 2019 and designed their own unique pair of socks whilst learning that every one is equal; and it is good to be unique! <Read More>

Recently, eight children from Swans class took part in an U11 Table Tennis Tournament, held at St Joseph’s College in Ipswich. Our children competed against three other schools containing ‘A’ and ‘B’ teams: Morland, Cliff Lane and St Pancras. Each child played at least three matches consisting of best of 5 games. Overall, both Stratford’s boy and girl teams finished in 4th position! Well done Swans!

Our Elmer ‘Swanning around in Constable Country’ has been returned to us after his stay in Christchurch Mansion. Elmer’s new home is in the school library. It’s great to have Elmer back and for him to be part of our school again.

On Thursday 7th November Kingfisher Class went on their trip to the Museum of East Anglian Life. The children were very excited when they saw they were travelling on a double decker coach. The children took part in their learning session. The children listened carefully to what Jo had to say. She asked them questions about the Great Fire of London and the children confidently answered them. The children were shown different artefacts from the Great Fire of London. They were told they had to be very careful with the artefacts as they were very delicate and old. The children were then given the task of making their own Tudor house. Once they had made their houses Jo put some of the houses on one tray – these houses were very close together representing the houses during the Great Fire of London. <Read More>
