Triathletes Reece Barclay and Lucy Charles Barclay visited Thomas Willingale School and Nursery to officially open the school's 'Daily Mile' running track.
The Daily Mile is a fully inclusive initiative which improves the physical and mental health of children. It is also a social activity where the children run, jog or walk at their own pace for 15 minutes everyday, improving their focus in the classroom.
The track was installed over the October half-term after some years of fundraising by the school and PTA.
The track will enable the children to use the field in all weathers to complete their Daily Mile.
The children enjoyed a Q&A session during assembly with the Play Leaders, House Captains, Sports Leaders and other sporting achievers getting the chance to join the special visitors for the ribbon cutting ceremony.
Lucy and Reece ended their visit with some track training during break time with the KS1 & KS2 children.
Lucy is the current Amateur World Champion Ironman Triathlete and was second three successive years at the Professional Womens Ironman Championships.
She has three challenge championship gold medals under her belt along with many other sporting achievements.
Reece, Lucy's husband and coach, became professional 18 months ago and came fifth at the World Championships.
Reece will run next year's London Marathon after recording a time of 2hrs 33mins this year while Lucy will be competing in Ironman South Africa next March.
