FAIR Girls Friends and Supporters,

I once read somewhere that feeling gratitude and not expressing it is like wrapping a present and not giving it. What a waste! So, at this time of Thanksgiving, I wanted to make sure FAIR Girls shared both our sincerest gratitude and ongoing opportunities for giving. 

Gratitude to our amazingly generous supporters - Because of you, FAIR Girls has been able to create brighter outcomes for the many trafficking survivors we served this past year. You helped us reduce the barriers to meaningful restoration faced by those survivors and provide them the skills, resources and support they need to remain free. 

Gratitude for the FAIR Girls staff - I’m lucky enough to have an amazing small but mighty team and in my hardest, most exhausted moments, I thank my lucky stars for them, their compassion, their expertise. I can see the difference they make everyday in our ability to better reach and support survivors.  

Gratitude for the survivors we work with - I’ve met the most remarkable survivors whose stories, courage and resilience will stay with me forever. One survivor, "Noelle" recently thanked us stating, "I am finally starting to dream and define a new life for myself." We are so honored and grateful that survivors continue to put their trust in us to support them along their path to restoration.  

However, those of us who live and breathe this work everyday know that far too many girls and young women are still not getting the life-saving help they desperately need. That is why this giving season I am asking you to invest deeply in the lives of trafficking survivors. Please consider partnering with FAIR Girls, by making a tax-deductible donation, to provide safety and restoration to these girls and young women survivors who have endured the unimaginable, to fuel the change that we know is possible for them, and help empower our mission to end human trafficking one life at a time.

Your Impact in Action

“Kya” is a 20 year old survivor of labor trafficking from the Central African Republic. When she was 12 years old, she was sent to America in hopes of a better life. Soon after she arrived, her uncle tried to force her into marrying an older man. When Kya refused, her uncle withheld food, restricted her mobility, and emotionally and verbally abused her and eventually sold her to a family in Virginia to be a domestic servant. During this time, Kya worked constantly for no pay and was “rented out” to other families. When she reported the abuse to a school counselor, she was moved to a different family and the system lost track of her.  Kya endured 2 more years of abuse before getting another chance to reach out for help. This time, it worked. Her school social worker contacted FAIR Girls and Kya came to live in our Vida Home. When Kya arrived at FAIR Girls, she faced numerous barriers, including the lack of immigration documents and yet Kya remained optimistic and resilient. During her time at the Vida Home, Kya participated in therapy, group programming and enrolled in a local art program to pursue her love of drawing. Kya and her case manager worked hard to find the perfect program for her in New York that will support her with own apartment, food, clothing, and financial support for up to 2 years ensuring that she has the time she needs to transition to independent living. Kya continues to receive case management support from FAIR Girls and is making great strides. She is even working on becoming a survivor speaker so that she can share her story to help others.

FAIR Girls was so honored this month to participate in the launch of the Alliance To End Human Trafficking on Capitol Hill. What an amazing afternoon filled with raising awareness and a robust bipartisan discussion on how we can and must all work together to combat modern day slavery! Our Executive Director, Erin Andrews, had the opportunity to speak alongside courageous survivors, committed federal policy makers and inspiring service providers from across the US and Mexico about what we are doing to combat human trafficking and what we can do better! We look forward to promoting and participating in the Alliance’s events over the coming year.
Donor Spotlight

Kappa Delta

On November 6th, the Kappa Delta room at the FAIR Girls Drop-In Center was dedicated.  The updated space now features new computers, bean bags and TVs purchased through a recent grant from the Kappa Delta Foundation to help create a safe and comfortable space for survivors to heal and grow. Current members of the sorority's chapter at George Washington University and area alumnae joined the FAIR Girls team for the dedication ceremony. Kappa Delta, with its long history of seeking to improve the lives and confidence of girls and young women, is a welcome and natural partner to support FAIR Girls’ work!
As the holidays approach and you begin your own holiday shopping, we ask that you consider our Vida Home Survivor Residents in your giving plans. Last year, with the help of our wonderful supporters and community partners, we were able to make the holidays not only safe but also special for the young women in the Vida Home.
