Announcements and Opportunities

Guarding Against Theft

Recent thefts in Langton Hall serve as a reminder: Be cautious about leaving valuables unlocked or untended in offices and labs. Some evidence suggests that thefts of purses and wallets occur most often in the last few weeks of fall term, but it’s always a good idea to keep your valuables locked up.

Fragrance Sensitivities

A friendly reminder that some colleagues in Burt Hall are allergic or sensitive to strong fragrances, especially lavender and patchouli oil. To ensure optimal working conditions for everyone, please avoid wearing or using personal care products with these or other strong scents.

Geoclub Fundraising!

Oregon State Geosciences Club is currently working to raise money for a trip to the Grand Canyon this spring. We are available for yard work! Our student workers are $15 per hour per student, and are willing to help out with any fall yard work needed. For more information, or to donate in some other capacity, contact the Geoclub officers. All funds will go towards this educational trip lead by a CEOAS professor. We appreciate all the help!

Sea levels to continue rising after current Paris agreement emission pledges expire in 2030

Sea levels will continue to rise around the world long after current carbon emissions pledges made through the Paris climate agreement are met and global temperatures stabilize, a new study indicates.

The new study is the first to quantify how much sea level would rise from the carbon emissions pledged under the Paris agreement. The researchers found that emissions released during the initial 15-year period of the agreement would cause sea levels to rise by about 20 centimeters by the year 2300.
