HIGH SCHOOL ENROLLMENT FAIR

As the High School enrollment process begins we will be supporting our 8th-grade families by having a High School Enrollment fair with representatives from High Schools from throughout Oakland.

Please save the date, 11/20 from 5:30-7pm, and plan to come to get your questions answered and learn more about your high school options. Questions? Contact Mr. Galvan, 8th Grade Dean.

FRIDGE THANK YOU!

Our fabulous T.A.C.L.E. (technology and augmentative communication for learning enhancement) teacher, Santiago Bustamante, was in need of a working refrigerator/freezer. He and his students like to do cooking projects and needed adequate storage. The T.A.C.L.E. team would like to thank Ms. Larson and all the parents, volunteers and staff involved in bringing the refrigerator to their class. "Thank you so much for making this a reality. Our students with special needs now have a refrigerator where they can store their food and ingredients for cooking projects that help them develop independence and daily life skills."

Below is a picture of a personal note of thanks created by CMS student, Gary, using his communication device.

NEED HELP FINDING OUT YOUR KNIGHT'S DAILY HOMEWORK?

Just a reminder that parents can access a daily homework log on our website. Go to www.claremontms.org >> RESOURCES >> CLAREMONT LEARNING CENTER >> CHOOSE GRADE. Then you will see a page similar to the 6th grade page below with a sidebar list of the homework due that week. Voila! If anything doesn't make sense, contact your student's teacher.

We're going to do a big push in the next six weeks before the end of the calendar year. You can sign up for a monthly donation or make a one time donation. Please go here to learn more.

R4R 2020 KICK OFF PARTY 12/4

Come register and hear about the new schools and small changes coming to Ride 4 A Reason 2020 at the Kick Off/Registration Party on December 4th at Sports Basement in Berkeley from 5:30 - 7:30 pm. Our special early bird pricing is only good until December 5th, then prices increase by $20!

Last year, riders helped raise a record-breaking $218,000! Because of our 350 riders, each of our 10 schools received $17,000 to provide much-needed student opportunities such as seeing Hamilton, experiencing California’s outdoor wilderness, and a number of science-focused field trips.

This year's ride is on Saturday, April 25, 2020. There is a 45, 68 and 109 mile route offered. Registration fee includes bus transportation and food during the ride. Register here!

SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES FIRST

At last week's meeting, the Claremont PTA voted to endorse the Schools and Communities First proposition for the Nov. 2020 election. This measure would bring over $11 billion a year into our schools and local governments, including over $45 million for Oakland schools. Imagine if Claremont had $400,000 more in its budget every year for teacher and staff salaries, activities and electives! This measure will not affect residential property at all, but would require commercial property like skyscrapers, banks and gas stations to pay property taxes on their full market value, instead of being sheltered from reassessment by Prop. 13. Houses, apartment buildings and small businesses would keep their Prop. 13 protections and would be untouched by this measure.

This measure is endorsed by CTA (the state teacher's union) and the California Democratic Party, as well as the League of Women Voters and innumerable local groups. Some parents will be tabling to collect signatures for the measure at the Miles gate during morning drop-off - please stop by and sign the petition! Contact Sam Davis at samdavis9@gmail.com if you want to help table in the mornings, or to gather signatures from your friends and family.
