How to Fit Self-Care In Your Life

Hi everyone! Today we're going to be talking about how to fit self-care into your busy life.

So, one thing that I've noticed in my 20 years of teaching is that a lot of my clients, and even just people I know, including my friends and family, have a hard time prioritizing themselves and taking time for self-care. This is because in our society, our sort of idea of success or self-worth is tied up in how much we get done, how busy we are, or what we've accomplished. And that does not coexist well with the idea of slowing down and taking time for self-care. Most of us are really busy with our families, and our careers, and most of us are putting everybody else first before ourselves.

I think the first step in learning how to fit self-care into your busy life is realizing that in order to be your best self, to be able to give your best to your friends, your family, your career, you have to take care of yourself.

Quick Self-Care Tip: Do a Few Affirmations


Add some simple but effective self-care to your day by practicing affirmations. These positive self-statements can bring more confident self-talk into your day and they force you to say nice things to yourself where you usually wouldn’t. Once you get the hang of them, they can be very powerful to boost your self-esteem!

For example, you could choose a statement each day and take 5 minutes to say it to yourself out loud or silently, 10 times. Really focus on the statement, don’t argue against it!


I discovered a really fun little app you can download on your phone that offers you a way to build a positive mindset in simple, personalized, and effective ways. You can choose your affirmations, record them in your own voice, add your favorite music, and listen to them on a daily basis. By using your own voice and choosing your favorite music, you'll be able to engage the emotional part of your brain.
