Everyone Can "Minister"

Dear <<First Name>>,

Quakers have an amazing take on "ministry." It changes things. It affirms that vital tasks of faithful service are not limited to a few designated people up front in a church. Everyone can minister!

Quakers in the 1600’s rejected the English system of state-sponsored clergy. It's been said they actually abolished the laity—the non-ministers—by encouraging all to seek, speak, and act under Divine Guidance. It's spiritual discernment integrated with faithful action.

The Quaker way inspires me to become a better “co-worker with God” (1 Corinthians 3: 9). It could inspire you too, no matter your faith tradition.

What does "universal ministry" look like today? Read on for real-life examples from Way of the Spirit alumni.  Apply to join the 2020 program now, or forward this message to someone who may wish to grow in a sense of their own Spirit-led service or ministry.

Blessings for faith and action,
Chris Hall, director Way of the Spirit

What might represent something of who you are in faithful service or ministry to others? These are personal symbols shared during a Way of the Spirit retreat.
Details and Application

In Way of the Spirit, participants explore models of ministry from the Quaker and Christian heritage. They grow in faithfulness that is intentionally exercised toward others. They follow spiritual discernment into uniquely satisfying ordinary ministries like these:

  • They engage anew and strengthen their faith communities.
  • They teach and speak and lead non-profits.
  • They grow in quiet, hidden abilities to nurture and accompany other people (read a recent article).
  • They care for the sick in hospitals, the homeless in shelters, hurting bodies on massage tables.
  • They write, paint, or sculpt beautiful pieces that reflect Holy wisdom and wonder to others.
  • They embrace deeper contemplative practice, discovering gifts of presence and intercession.
  • They work compassionately for justice and peace in prisons, politics, and among those marginalized by racism and poverty.
Each Way of the Spirit participant brings one-of-a-kind giftedness, life experience, and Holy possibilities that combine in actions that are vibrant with Divine Life and Power. Each does what is theirs to do, and joins the hidden ferment of Holy Goodness in the world.
