Dear Saints,

As the weather gets colder and we move into the holiday season, there’s something so comforting about bundling up in warm, cozy things and eating our favorite foods. And so, what better gift to share with others? In our services this Sunday, we will have a chance offer such gifts as we bless the over 100+ scarves and hats knitted or crocheted by All Saints members for our Hot Meals guests to be given at the annual Thanksgiving meal, as well as give the grocery store gift cards we’ve purchased to help families who might not otherwise be able to have a special Thanksgiving meal to Lewis Principal Deanne Froelich and pray for the families of Lewis Elementary.

Following the service, we will have our Social Justice and Advocacy Committee meeting in the south end of the Parish Hall (11:50). We have some important opportunities to consider around providing sacred welcome to immigrants, climate action, a forum on interrupting oppression, and expanding the services we offer to those struggling with food and housing insecurity. Even if you missed the last meeting you are welcome to join us.

And finally, as the news comes in of yet another mass shooting, this time at a high school in Santa Clarita, CA, I hope you will join me in offering prayers for the victims and their families. Prayers for whatever comfort and healing might be found, prayers that as a country we would resolve to do whatever it takes to end gun violence, prayers that this be the last time.

In the words of our Presiding Bishop,
Michael Curry, God love you. God keep you. And may God hold us all in those almighty hands of love.

The Rev. Andria Skornik

Thanksgiving/Christ the King Sunday: On Sunday, November 24, we will have a moment of collecting ourselves before the Thanksgiving Holiday through special prayers and a related message. We will be sharing gratitude practices and prayers that people can take home, as well. It is also Christ the King Sunday, which is the last Sunday of the liturgical year before Advent; our 4th Sunday, which celebrates the gifts of our children and youth; and, additionally, we will have a professional photographer with us to help capture community life at All Saints with photos that can be used on our website. If you would prefer not to be photographed, please let Rev. Andria know so she can communicate with the photographer. Thank you for helping us extend a warm welcome in this way.
Savoring the Season of Advent - December 4th, 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.: As you’ve probably noticed from the change in TV ads and the decor in stores, Christmas is coming! But how do we, as people of faith, get ready for Christ’s birth? How do we enter into the mystery of Advent in the way our souls long for? How do we navigate the cultural pressures associated with this time? On December 4, our parish will gather for a festive Advent meal (complete with cider and cookies) to explore these questions and equip people to observe a holy Advent with simple and doable practices that can be done in the day to day. Childcare will be available and we will have special crafts to help children engage these ideas as well. Sign-ups to bring food will be in the Parish Hall starting November 17.
Advent Wreath Making: The Children’s Ministry will be making Advent Wreaths on the first Sunday of Advent (December 1.  If you would like to participate, please bring some evergreens of other holiday greens, floral/garden shears, and a pie plate. We will Advent candles, floral foam, candle holders and additional greens ($8 suggested donation for materials).
Save the Dates: Woodstock Tree Lighting at Homestead Preschool (Dec 7); St. Nicholas Breakfast (During Sunday School Dec 8).

Dismantling Racism: Anti-racism Training for Leaders of Faith Communities
We are called to strive for justice and peace among all people, and respect the dignity of every human being. One of the ways we in the Episcopal Diocese of Oregon do this is through mandatory anti-racism training for people in positions of leadership.

The next training is Saturday, November 23 at Trinity Cathedral, Portland. Click
here for more information.
Centering Prayer is a receptive method of silent prayer. It does not replace other means of prayer but adds depth and meaning to all prayer. Join us for our last group session on November 14th (7:00pm to 8:30pm)

Justice and Advocacy Meeting: Nov 17 after the 10:15 service (11:45am) is our next Social Justice and Advocacy meeting. We will be discussing our first initiatives and upcoming opportunities for action. All are welcome to attend. For more info email Mother Andria.

Episcopal Church ‘still in’ despite Trump administration’s withdrawal from Paris climate pact: “The Trump administration announced on Nov. 4 that it would withdraw the United States from the global climate pact known as the “Paris agreement” within a year, but that won’t affect The Episcopal Church’s commitment to the agreement’s goal of stopping or slowing climate change.” Read more from the Episcopal News Service here.
Blessing of Hats and Scarves: This Sunday, November 17, during the 10:15 a.m. service. At this service we will also be blessing the 100+ hats and scarves knitted and crocheted by All Saints members and friends for the Guests of our Hot Meals weekly lunch ministry that will then be given at their Thanksgiving meal on Saturday, November 23rd.
Sharing the Feast & Spreading the Warmth: This Sunday, November 17, Lewis Principal Deanne Froelich will be with us at the 10:15 service to receive the Thanksgiving meal gifts cards for families of Lewis school. Please remember to bring gifts cards you have purchased on or before this date.
Gratitude Garland Project: This month we will be celebrating the month of Thanksgiving through a beautiful display of gratitude garland that will be tied to the fence facing Woodstock. To participate, please pick up your strip of fabric in the Narthex and write something you are thankful for on the back with a permanent marker. You may also cut your own strips of fabric at home. There will be a basket for completed strips, or you can tie them on the fence once the display is up. We will be inviting the wider community to participate as well. We hope to have our fence full of colorful fabric strips that represent and remind us of all that we have to be thankful for.
Fall Cleanup: Thank you to everyone who came out to rake leaves and clean up the grounds. David Miller, Laurie and Steve McDowell, Steve Hiscoe, Steve Dieterich, Craig Gibson, Chuck Martin, Judy Clark, Deb Miller, Andria and Coby Skornik and Jon Pitner. We filled 90+ bags with leaves and debris. We want to extend a special thank you to City Sanitary for stopping by the church Monday morning and picking all the bags. They were just driving by the church and picked up everything before we could even call them.
Annual Stewardship Drive: We are most grateful for the 59 pledges of $155,655 that we received in our 2020 Stewardship Campaign toward our goal of $200,000. Thank you all so very much! We asked you to help us continue our vision we started last year with Rev. Andria+ and continue to support our staff and programs at All Saints. If you didn’t pledge and would like to, you still may do so. Pledge Cards are available in the Narthex, pews, or from the Church Office if you need one. You can drop them off at the Church Office, place them in the Offertory Plate on Sunday, or mail them to the church. Please know that your generous contributions to All Saints help make us a vibrant worship community and are truly appreciated by us. Your continued vital financial support is truly a blessing to our All Saints Community. ~ Jerry Meter, Treasurer
Woodstock Neighborhood Association Newsletter: As we increase our church's efforts to partner in the Woodstock neighborhood, one great way we can do that is supporting our neighborhood initiatives. Every month the Woodstock Neighborhood Association puts out an excellent newsletter full of things happening in the neighborhood. You can see the November edition and subscribe here.
St Francis Closet:  We are in dire need of men's average-sized pants or jeans. Got an old sleeping bag or an extra blanket? Is your sock drawer overstuffed?

As October brings cooler nights and rainy weather, let’s remember that freezing temperatures are not far off and many who are homeless will struggle to keep warm. Let’s help them out. Please see Deacon Kathleen about donating items to the St. Francis Closet. Donations are needed year-round.
Bishop Michael Health Update: Earlier this month, Bishop Michael experienced a few days of feeling unwell. He was diagnosed with a pulmonary embolism and prescribed blood thinners and rest.

Following his doctor’s orders, Bishop Michael is reworking his schedule to create the necessary time and space to continue recovering, and anticipates returning to full-time ministry after Thanksgiving.

Please keep Bishop Michael in your prayers over the next few weeks as he recuperates.
