UCI Sustainability Week 8 Digest

Greetings Anteaters,

This week is Hunger & Homelessness Awareness Week (HHAW). As part of a nation-wide initiative, the week-long series of events, displays, and outreach aims to raise consciousness of the resources available and ways in which the UCI community can get involved. To learn more about the movement for equitable food systems in OC, the SRC, along with CRECE Cooperative, Housing Sustainability, and FRESH Hub hosted a service learning trip to CRECE's microfarm in Santa Ana. On Saturday morning, the team of 14 volunteers helped set up a drip irrigation system, harvest from the garden beds, and mulch the walkways. See the full event calendar on the HHAW website.

Remember you can submit any sustainability-related events or opportunities you hear about to be published on the SRC website and included here in the digest. To do so, and to see examples, visit UCI sustainability events calendar or the opportunities database.

For any questions, feel free to contact us at sustainability-center@uci.edu.

 Film screening of "Containment"
Left over from the Cold War are a hundred million gallons of radioactive sludge, covering vast radioactive lands.  Part observational essay filmed in weapons plants, Fukushima and deep underground - and part graphic novel - "Containment" weaves between an uneasy present and an imaginative, troubled far future, exploring the idea that over millenia, nothing stays put.
