Dear Members,
It was an honour and privilege to be appointed as Drouin Golf & Country Club Men’s Captain at the Annual General Meeting on Wednesday 13th of November.
Firstly, I would like to congratulate outgoing Captain Ryan Hammond for his achievements in the role over the past years. Whilst I will never hold a candle to his golfing prowess, I hope to match his passion and enthusiasm for our club. I will certainly be seeking his (and other previous club captains) counsel as I take on and find my feet in the role.
I would also like to acknowledge the hard work and efforts of our Women’s Captain, Sue Hatfield. Sue has represented the club at GWG meetings, and I look forward to sharing this role with her.
For those who were unable to attend the AGM, it was wonderful to hear the optimism and clear directions set for the club from our current Board. Clearly there is still much hard work to be done, but given the development of the new holes and as our course continues to play as the best in West Gippsland under Hammo’s stewardship, there is much to look forward to.
For those who don’t know me, I have been a member of our club since 1992 (nearly 28 years.) I have served on committee under our previous governance structure, represented our club in pennant teams and Plates, and taken on numerous voluntary duties over this period. As my 40 year employment with the Department of Education comes to an end, I am looking forward to serving the club in the captain’s role.
I believe that participation and inclusion are important underlying principles that make for successful organisations. Maximising participation in playing golf at our club is also good for the bottom line financially, and I am keen to support events that are popular to our members. In the same manner, growing our membership is important for participation and financial security.
Finally, I would like to say what a joy it was to see Anthony Bambridge awarded Life Membership at our AGM. Anthony’s contribution to our club simply cannot be over-stated, and is thoroughly deserved. Well done and thank you Anthony, for everything you have brought to our club.
