HOT WEATHER
Thank you staff for supporting the “hot weather policy” put in place as result of the consecutive hot days over 35 degrees. It was also brought up by student councillors and with them we discussed some of the concerns and possible solutions. We then did a walk around the school. What was obvious is many of the children don’t worry about how hot it is and no filter until later when they have headaches, nosebleeds etc. This was evident by the high number playing soccer etc. on oval and only two students were playing under the shade. Hence the closing of the oval. Any feedback appreciated as I will look at shaping into a sharper addendum to our wet weather policy.
DOORS
Speaking of hot weather… When you come into any of the blocks, particularly the junior primary block PLEASE close the door. Even if you are going back out “in a minute” as the hot air just blows through and the wet areas get really hot!
FREE DRESS DAY
Please remind students this Friday is a free dress day. Student Councillors have driven this. They wanted to raise money towards a charity that would benefit disadvantaged families (children) at Christmas. Students are encouraged to wear Red and Blue colours (Smith family logo colours) for a gold coin. The Smith Family is an independent children's charity helping disadvantaged Australian children to get the most out of their education, so they can create better futures for themselves. Friday morning after assembly student councillors will come around to collect the gold coins.
END OF YEAR
The end is near!! Please do not leave the clean out of classrooms until the last week. Our bins will not cope. Clearing up starts now. A reminder we have a school policy that states personal gear is not to be stored at school unless you are using it, (and that means currently) - if so it should be in your classroom. We need to keep storage spaces clear for whole school access, i.e. resources and in some cases if the areas were cleared out they could be utilised better for 1:1 for students with special education needs. It is even more important this year as we have many classroom changes happening.
Marie Kondo method may assist :) - Does it bring you joy? If you answer yes, you keep the item. If you hesitate or say no, you donate it or throw it out.
RELIEF TEACHERS
If you are going to be away a reminder to ensure your relief signs in. Also if you have any DOTT scheduled that day please ask them to speak with your line manager to redeploy.
ASSEMBLY/MERIT AWARDS
A reminder to submit by Wednesday 11.00 am. It is a Gold Assembly but you don’t have to be in gold group to have a merit award read out. This is one of the benefits of having it before school in the library at 8.15am.
ACCEPTANCE AND PROVISION OF GIFTS POLICY AND PROCEDURES
It’s that time of year again. There will be many parents working behind the scenes to purchase something nice for class teachers. A reminder there is a department policy on the acceptance of gifts.
The Department of Education requires all employees to observe the highest standards of integrity, ethics and probity in relation to the acceptance and provision of gifts during the course of their employment with the Department. Staff are required to report any gifts received with a value greater than $100.00. In simple terms, to clarify, staff are allowed to receive gifts with a total value of more than $100.00 but are simply just required to have it noted, which we then file.
Click here for link to form.
Please then place in my pigeon hole. Any queries see me. Last year we still had people (staff and parents) saying teachers weren’t allowed to receive a gift worth more than $100. Let me be really clear so those rumours don’t start again, it is no problem, you just need to complete the form as per department requirements. Thanks, Perisse
