Club Charity Fund Raising

Lisa Shepherd has volunteered to work with the Club on charity fundraising both in terms of liaising with the Club charity of the year and supporting individual members.

If you have already got a charity place and are worried about fundraising, Lisa is very happy to help and support you with ideas and practical help.  If you have planned charity events, for example quiz nights/virtual runs, please let Lisa know as she is keeping a central calendar so that RR members can ensure they are maximising the timing of their events and can advise you if something is already planned around that time.

You may be considering applying for a charity place in the future in which case Lisa is able to help with your application, giving you support with what to say and how to highlight your strengths and giving you ideas about how to ensure you can reach your fundraising target.  If you would like to contact Lisa please either catch her at a run or email charity@redwayrunners.com.

Need For Speed Morning of the PBs

On Saturday we had our Need for Speeders celebrate the end of their10 week course at Milton Keynes parkrun.

There were lots of PBs and beaming smiles at the end. The energy was great with lots of RR milestones too.

Although not every run can be a PB we’re hoping that the course has given our runners the confidence in knowing what they’re capable of, the knowledge of intervals and how to apply them into training, how to use their watches other than just pressing start and stop and the opportunity to meet other amazing Redway Runners

Thanks to Katie, Kev, Sam, Neville, Mike & Sarah and all the other helpers who make this possible!

Dirt Half Marathon Challenge 2019

Well done to all the Redway Runners who ran the Dirt Half marathon, very muddy and wet conditions on the course.

Redway Runners won the team prize with Matt Clements, Andrew Emmerson, Christopher Mahoney, Jennifer Sangster and Matthew Childs and Jennifer Sangster was third lady

It seemed we had Redway Runners at every turning cheering runners, so thank you and thanks to those that volunteered

Well done all

Andy Hully Race Director said 'THANK YOU FOR TAKING PART!

It was a lovely fresh, dry day with a gentle breeze and ideal running conditions. Plenty of mud between mile 7 and the Globe Inn on the canal due to the amount of rain we’ve had over the last few weeks.

The race was won by Matt Sims in a time of 01:16:49, which is also a new course record by just 2 seconds! The second runner home was Harry Smith from Ampthill & Flitwick Flyers at 1:17:58 followed by Jed Noblett at 1:18:34. Men’s Vet categories were won by Mark Ramsden MV40, Paul Williamson MV50, Mike Clark MV60, and David Baker MV70.

First Lady was Charlene Jacobs-Conradie from Luton Athletics Club with an impressive time of 1:25:53 followed by Dawn Godwin of Windle Valley Runners at 1:33:04 and Jennifer Sangster of Redway Runners in 1:34:35. Female Vet prizes were won by Charlene Jacobs-Conradie FV35, Dawn Godwin FV45, Lesley Jenkinson FV55, and Deidre Bethune FV65.

The team prize went to the Redway Runners: Matt Clements, Andrew Emerson, Chris Mahoney, Jen Sangster, and Matthew Childs.

“An amazing course with a variety of beautiful scenery. Fantastic marshals, loads of encouragement and plenty of water. And great medal and Coke at the end! Brilliant race.” said Anna Mead.

Redway Runners in the Movies

Redway Runners have made it to the big screen, well Amazon Prime movies, spot Julie Martin in the new film 'Brittany Runs a Marathon'

Schools XCountry

Our U18s were in action on Wednesday representing their respective senior schools.

In the year 10/11 category we swept the board with 1st,2nd,4th & 5th. It’s not all about winning and we train purely for the enjoyment of it.

But this does prove that a healthy amount of training can have its rewards. Well done all, we are proud of you all.

Cyprus Challenge 2019

We had a number of Redway Runners at the 2019 Cyprus Challenge a tough 4 days of races

Race 1 was a 6K time trial
From Coral Bay to the Ship wreck, with the 300 runners starting at 10 second intervals late on the Thursday afternoon, just before sunset

Race 2 an 11K hilly run
It is the 11k hill race, could easily be called the mountain goat challenge. Over 2,000 feet of climb from sea level at Akamas to the church in the hill.
Great running and climbing by all.
Sadly after yesterday's race we lost our chief supporter as Abi's mum tripped and broke her leg, hopefully Gay will get better soon all the best from Redway Runners.

Race 3 Trail Half Marathon
Saturday was day 3 of the Cyprus 4 day challenge and it was a trail half marathon from close to Pollis at the top of the island down to Akamas, the first two miles were uphill then three miles down hill and the rest was rolling hills.
Think all found that tough but followed the race with a dip in the sea

Race 4 Pathos 10K
Sunday was the finale of the Cyprus 4 day challenge with the Pathos 10k race round the city, finally got the group photo of everyone.

Certainly been a challenging 4 day event but the free beer at the end has been very welcome.
Extremely well organised event, great to meet current friends and make new ones.
