WHAT TO EXPECT
The Spirit of God is at work in the lives of so many here at EBPC. One of them is Elder Paul Rein. I have invited him to speak on the theme “What me...A Pilgrim?” About this Sunday Paul writes: “I’m delighted to be here to share what I’ve come to phrase the “Flourishing Cycle” - something I am in the early phases of discovering. The flourishing cycle flow goes something like this: a revitalized relationship with God through listening and discernment that leads to a strengthened relationship of trust allowing one to take a “leap of faith out of one’s comfort zone which leads to developing relationships with others which feeds back into a deeper relationship with God. And so the cycle continues and so the flourishing grows.”
Please join us this Sunday at 10 a.m. as Paul Rein shares his experience, and will hopefully inspire you as you jump start your own personal flourishing cycle.
The text for Sunday is I Corinthians 12:1-27. The youth band and the choir will be providing this Sunday’s music.
About Our Current Series:
For the Life of the World: My Flourishing Life is the theme for the next few Sundays. What does it mean to flourish? Words such as thrive or bloom may come to mind or there is the feeling of being happy. Miroslav Volf, the Professor of Faith and Culture and Yale Divinity School has spent years thinking about this subject and he writes that “to flourish means to have explicit or implicit convictions about what it means for us to lead life well, for our life to go well, and for it to feel right.”
Each of us have to work out what flourishing means for us individually and together what it means socially. The world’s greatest traditions have been trying to answer this question for 3,000+ years and sometimes it feels we are left to work out our own answer in our spare time. When we do we are confronted with our lack of knowledge to articulate our vision for ourselves a vision for the good life.
In last Sunday’s sermon “What me...A Theologian?” we were introduced to some foundational images and thoughts to help you as a budding theologian as we try to understand the practice of faith, especially when it comes to anxiety and worry. We are all theologians - no matter our age or our work, but we are also pilgrims, because faith is not simply a set of beliefs, not even only personal trust supported by a set of convictions. It is an entire way of journey. Next Sunday we will have fun with the theme: “What me...An Improv Comedian?”
