Culture Club – Wednesday, Nov. 20
Nicolas is organising a guided tour of the Grimaldi Castle Museum in Cagnes-sur-Mer. The castle was built around 1300 by Rainier Grimaldi, Lord of Cagnes and Amiral of France as a fortress to defend the city and converted in a seigniorial domain in 1620 by the Baron Jean-Henri Grimaldi.
Meet in the School’s parking lot to leave around 9:00 am.
We'll start at 10 am with a short visit of the town, followed by one-hour guided tour at 11:00 am. Both the visit and the guided tour will be in French and English.
We're going to be back to School in time for pick-up.

Dads’ Bedlam Dinner – NEW DATE
Wednesday Nov. 20
Dads meet for drinks at 7 pm and dinner at 8 pm at Le Petit Bouchon, 4 rue de la République, Mouans-Sartoux. Come and meet your favourite andouillette at this restaurant Lyonnais. Contact Adam by SMS or WhatsApp +33 (0) 6 83 90 68 60.
Ladies’ Time-Out – Friday, Nov. 22
On November 22nd, we’re going to visit the prestigious Marché Forville in Cannes. There’s so much to see and taste! Bring your grocery bags if you’d like to buy something to share with your loved ones at home.
Clémentine is planning to meet everyone in front of the primary gate after drop off. Carpooling is a very good option.
After enjoying the flavours of the market, Clementine is suggesting to have lunch at Astoux restaurant, a hot fish and sea food place near the market. Please email Clémentine ladiestimeout@mougins-school-pta.com to confirm your place for lunch.
Primary Winter Market - Dec.11
This year, Daniela and Tanya are the main organisers of the Primary Winter Market that will take place Wednesday, December 11.
This event gives our children the opportunity to buy presents themselves for their mums, dads, brothers, sisters, grandparents and even their dog! We wrap the presents for them to put under the Christmas tree at home to surprise you all during the festive season. It has grown over the years and has brought a lot of joy to younger members of our community.
But Daniela and Tanya can’t do all by themselves: they need volunteers and they need gifts. Please have a look around your home to see if there is anything (books, DVDs, cosmetics, bags, jewellery, soaps, picture frames, ties and scarves, toys … ) that you no longer need and that could be sold at the Primary Winter Market.  We are looking for “gifts” for young and old… for grandparents, parents, brothers and sisters. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. We cannot have the Winter Market unless there are enough items to sell – there would be just too many disappointed children! There are boxes in Elisabeth’s office waiting for your kind donations.
Fancy being a gift wrapper, elf helper, or a personal shopper? We really could use your help on Wednesday, December 11th, as well as in the days prior to sort, label, and price the gifts, and to make sure everything is ready for the children to do their shopping.

Mougins School Debate Club
The School is bringing forward a number of extracurricular initiatives to complement students’ learning and education. One such initiative is a Debate Club under the leadership of Mr. Mike Carver (History), Mrs. Hilary Lecoy (English and Drama) and Mrs. Annie Achilli (Biology).
Every year, the COBIS Student World Debate Competition is opened to teams from 16 International British Schools. Some of these schools take turn in organizing the annual competition: Bucharest (2019, 2015), Dubai (2018), Marbella (2017), Mexico City (2016), The Netherlands (2014) and Prague (2013). Mougins School is fortunate to have been accepted to participate in the February 2020 competition in Marbella.
This is some of the information we gathered from the organisers and from the COBIS website.
Q: What is a Debate?
A: A Debate is an argument between two people, or two teams, that has rules. One side typically argues the pros of a topic, or resolution, while the other side argues the cons. Points are scored based on the strength of the arguments and how well the debaters behave.
Q: What are the benefits of a Debate Club and who can participate?
A: The Club is opened to students from form 10 and up. We currently have up to 20 students participating in weekly sessions. While the main advantage is of course to be more comfortable with public speaking, students must also practice to do it professionally and gracefully. They learn to develop sound and logical arguments, to listen, to think quickly, and to frame counterarguments. These skills will serve them all their life, and can be a nice addition to their résumé.
Q: Why send students to the COBIS competition?
A: The Debate Club is a very worthwhile extracurricular activity. Students work hard to learn and develop their skills. The participation in such a prestigious event brings them in competition with some of the best high school teams from around the world. It is a strong incentive for all Club participants to do their best, and for those selected to a further improve their skills and later share with other students. It is also a great way to improve the School’s notoriety.
Q: How can the PTA contribute to making the Mougins School Debate Club a success?
A: The School is planning on sending a team of four to six students accompanied by two teachers to the competition. There are extensive preparations required to participate in such an event and there are, of course, substantial costs involved. These are typically shared by school, parents, and PTA.
Your PTA Newsletter will continue to bring you more information and insight on the extracurricular initiatives organised by school.
PTA Secretary
We still need a Secretary. This is a key person for the PTA. Someone who is organised and who wants to be part of a team where we all work together. Inquiries: president@mougins-school-pta.com
Carpooling - update
Our carpool coordinator has now put in contact families from Roquefort-les-Pins, Cannes and Valbonne. There are also families in Saint-Paul-de-Vence, Le Rouret, Montauroux and Le Cannet interested in carpooling.
You can reply to carpool.mougins.school@gmail.com indicating in the email subject the town you live in (example: Valbonne, Mougins, etc). In the body of the email please provide additional information, such as the form your child is in, and perhaps, for larger towns, your neighbourhood or street name.

The PTA team will collect this information and then share it only among the parents living in the same town. For example, if you live in Cannes you will receive an email with the list of all other Mougins School families who live in Cannes and are interested in carpooling.
