IBE aims to assist immigrants in navigating the sometimes complex requirements of operating a small business in Canada. Visitors can connect with government-funded and other community services and supports that help immigrants start or grow their own small businesses.
Date: Saturday, November 23, 2019; 9:30 am to 2:30 pm
Venue: Mohawk College, The Joyce Centre for Partnership and Innovation, 135 Fennell Ave. W, Hamilton (limited number of free parking spots available)
Did you know that newcomers are twice as likely to be unemployed as their Canadian-born counterparts with the same qualifications? (TRIEC 2019)
These and other realities were discussed at the 2019 Pathways to Prosperity National Conference, attended by HIPC and some of our community partners. The conference focused on research, policy, and practice supporting the attraction, settlement and integration of newcomers, with success stories and lessons learned from across the country. Research and programming on employment, language learning, skills development, affordable housing and beyond was presented, with many of the presentations in now accessible to all online through the website.
HIPC invites you to review these presentations and reflect on any gaps, similarities or differences that you find in your own work in Hamilton. How do our challenges differ? What similarities do you see? Share your thoughts with us on Twitter at #HamiltonForAll.
