Propose a Pre-Conference Course at ARCHIVES*RECORDS 2020
SAA Education seeks proposals for pre-conference courses August 23, 2020, at the Joint Annual Meeting in Chicago. Possible topics for half-day or full-day courses include archives management (budgeting/finances, facilities, security, soft skills, ethics, disaster planning); diversity, equity, and inclusion for archives managers and practitioners; and courses that support the DAS and A&D Certificate programs. Submit your proposal by January 15.

AROUND THE PROFESSION
Hong Kong Archivist/Records Manager Receives 2019 Emmett Leahy Award
Simon Fook-Keung Chu is the recipient of the 2019 Emmett Leahy Award in recognition of his outstanding contributions to the records and information management profession. The international award honors Chu for his work in the Public Records Office of Hong Kong, where he served as the first records manager of the Hong Kong Government, championed the government’s first purpose-built archives facility, campaigned for an archives law for Hong Kong, and is one of the founders of the Hong Kong Archives Society. Chu was also the first to teach archives in Hong Kong universities and created the international Post Graduate Certificate archives course at the University of Hong Kong SPACE. Chu is the first recipient of the award in Asia.

Workshop on Creative Commons, RightsStatements.org, and Traditional Knowledge
The Visual Resources Association Foundation (VRAF) is holding the workshop "Beyond Licenses: Integrating Creative Commons, RightsStatements.org, and Traditional Knowledge into Permissions" on November 22 at the University of Denver. The workshop will provide a baseline review of applicable intellectual property rights, including US copyright law and fair use, before delving into a deeper understanding and use of Creative Commons licenses, RightsStatements.org, and Traditional Knowledge labels. Seminar on the Archives of the Holy See
The Sangalli Institute for the religious history and cultures of Florence will host a seminar on the Archives of the Holy See January 20–24, 2020, in Rome. This seminar is open to students enrolled in graduate programs in early-modern and modern history as well as to archivists, museum curators, and scholars who are working with the history of Roman Catholicism. Applicants should send a one-page CV and brief letter of interest sharing how the seminar will improve their research to segreteria@istitutosangalli.it. Deadline: December 1.
 
The Newberry Library's Short-Term Fellowships
The Newberry Library's long-standing fellowship program provides outstanding scholars with the time, space, and community required to pursue innovative and ground-breaking scholarship. Short-Term Fellowships, available to postdoctoral scholars, PhD candidates, and those who hold other terminal degrees, are generally for 1 to 2 months and include a stipend of $2,500 per month. Deadline: December 15.

Applications Invited for RBM Reviews Editor
Applications and nominations are invited for the position of Reviews Editor for ACRL’s peer-reviewed, biannual journal in special collections librarianship, RBM: A Journal of Rare Books, Manuscripts, and Cultural Heritage. Applications Invited for Northwest Archivist-in-Residence Program
Northwest Archivists, Inc. invites applications for its Archivist-in-Residence program, which offers a $5,000 stipend for one graduate student (or recent graduate within two years) for a 12-week summer residency. The residency provides new professionals the opportunity to develop a project based on their goals and skills and work directly with an organization to determine the project’s scope, goals, and outcomes. Recipients will also receive a complimentary one-year membership to Northwest Archivists. Learn more about the program and submit your application.

The 2020 Student Program Subcommittee is accepting proposals for two special sessions dedicated to student scholarship during the Joint Annual Meeting of CoSA and SAA in Chicago, August 2–8, 2020. Work from both master's and doctoral students will be considered. Learn more. Deadline: February 3.
