PARENT OF TEENS WHO DIED BY SUICIDE HOPE SPEAKING UP WILL PREVENT MORE DEATHS
As teen suicides increase across the country, experts and parents say bullying and social media have contributed to the rise. But in many cases, people who die by suicide also had mental health challenges. Get the story here.
 
MORE ADOLESCENTS SEEK MEDICAL CARE FOR MENTAL HEALTH CHALLENGES
Emergency rooms (ERs) throughout California are reporting a sharp increase in adolescents and young adults seeking care for a mental health crisis. In 2018, California ERs treated 84,584 young patients ages 13 to 21 who had a primary diagnosis involving mental health. Learn more.
 
MENTAL HEALTH IS STILL A 'DON'T ASK, DON'T TELL TELL' SUBJECT AT WORK
Since the dawn of the corporate office park, mental health has been relegated to the “don’t ask, don’t tell” limbo of the American workplace. Shame and stigma prevent some 80 percent of sufferers from seeking help, according to one report. Read here.
Blog Series: Self-Care During the Holidays
This time of year can be exciting and joyous, filled with traditions and hopefully some time to rest! Each year, some look forward to the connection and warmth that the holiday season can bring, but for many, the holidays also can be a stressful time. Whether you celebrate the season with cultural or family traditions, recognize Kwanzaa, Hanukkah, Christmas, other religious beliefs, or do not have any relationship with the holiday season, this time of year can cause stress, anxiety, and depression. For some, it may be stressful to gather with family, or it may be challenging when we aren’t able to get together with related or chosen family members. For others, it may feel isolating to see constant holiday messaging that isn’t representative of our beliefs or culture.

At Each Mind Matters, we want to remind everyone to practice self-care through the holiday season. Veterans Day Parade
Each year, the largest Veterans Day parade in the country happens in downtown Fresno to honor our veterans and those currently serving in the armed forces. This year, Each Mind Matters was there to promote mental health awareness. Check out this lime green truck from the Fresno County Department of Behavioral Health!
