KHOPANG NEWSLETTER
October 2019
Dear Brothers and Sisters,
Greetings to you all from Chiangmai. We are grateful to our Heavenly Father for His love and care over all of us. No matter what side of the earth we are on, He is there and taking good care of each of us. In life we all have good days and bad days, but He is all-seeing and all-knowing and we can rest in this knowledge that He will see us through every situation and He will make a way for us unto victory, so that we can give Him the glory. We pray that each of you will also be encouraged by this and trust in His goodness, and know that He cares.
Joel's trip to Burma
This month we want to share with you about Joel's trip into Burma (Myanmar). Pastor Saithoon hired a truck to travel into Burma because his niece was moving up to Putao, and had a lot of stuff to move. So Joel traveled with them this way. They left Thakyilek September 26th, and arrived in Myitkyina on October 2nd. It took a long time and they drove all day too. Joel got off there in Myitkyina which was his destination, but Saithoon continued on to Putao and would later pick Joel up to return to Thakyilek.

So while in Myitkyina, Joel was able to attend a 2 day revival, and he was also asked to preach at one of the services. There were about 350 people in attendance and they had come from all over Burma.

Then on Sunday October 6th, Joel was able to go and preach at the NuSu Church, another branch and dialect of the Nung people. Lisu is the common language even among all the different tribal groups in Burma, so Joel naturally used Lisu to preach in.
Seminar for Anung Language Teachers
We had set up this Teachers Seminar especially to help equip potential teachers with knowledge of how to teach reading and writing of the Anung language. We had six teachers and 20 people who came for training.
Joel taught spelling, pronunciation and how to use the right ending words.
Joel's uncle, Aram Khopang, taught Anung grammar and structure.
Joel's cousin, Jonathan Khopang, taught Anung sentences using new vocabulary.
Joel's cousin, Nyewu Khopang, taught phonology
Joel's cousin, Reuben Khopang, taught how to create and use the Anung picture dictionary.
Joel's cousin, Sisa Khopang, taught music and Anung songs.
All in all, it was a very busy, successful and productive time of learning. They will now be able to go to the different Anung villages all over Burma even into the neighboring border countries to reach and teach the Anung people their language so that they will be able to read the Bible and sing hymns in their own language! We have worked so long and hard on reviving the Anung people, the language and the culture itself. We are very happy that so many came to train so that they can in turn pay it forward.
About the progress of our house and more news:
Joel arrived safely home the last week of October and was able to help carry the workload pertaining to the building of our home. We finally got the electric pole and the electric company came and approved everything! Next week they will install the meter box! We also finally got curtains for the windows, which makes a tremendous amount of difference on the acoustics! Since there is no carpeting over here, only tiles, there was a lot of echo sounds.
But that is not all! We have good news! We were issued our house number and address along with the new House Registration Book! This has been a long application process of nearly a year in the making! So praise the Lord! We are so excited!

Inside the house you could say it is about 95% done, but on the outside, it is more like 80-85% done. There is still much work that needs to be done all around the house, and in order to reduce the dust, dirt, and sand from blowing in, we desperately need to lay some grass down, but we would need to bring in some dark soil in order for anything to grow.
As you can see below, the outside of the house still needs a lot of work.
However, we have more good news! Our daughter Saskia and her son, Levi, are coming for a visit arriving on December 4th, and Monique will also be coming over from Holland around the 17th of December to be with us and her mom.. Then also our son Jesse, his wife, Lyssa, and two daughters are coming for a visit! They will be arriving December 13th. Their tickets were paid for by a friend of theirs so that they could come! God is so good! We will get to spend Christmas together in the new house, and we can be together as we welcome in the New Year! They will also be here for the house dedication which we hope to have on Saturday, January 11th, 2020! Our two other sons, Shemaiah and Uraiah Jered were not able to get time off to come this year. Hopefully, it will be their turn next year.
May God bless you and keep you all and may His light and favor shine upon you all. We love you, miss you, and pray for you always.

With love and appreciation to all of you,
Joel and Marilyn Khopang
***URGENT***
Marilyn is about to run out of her hormone patches and without them she has severely debilitating hot flashes. She is extremely worried about how she will get more of them. The patches are not available in Thailand and the previous doctor that wrote her the prescription is unable to prescribe anymore due to recent restrictions put out by the state medical board. Even with a physical and imaging completed by a doctor in Thailand, she is not able to prescribe the patches. We are hoping by making this issue known that someone in our network may be able to help out with this situation in some way, either by putting her in contact with a doctor who would be able to write the prescription or any other idea. We are really desperate for some help so any idea you have or resource you know of would be much appreciated!!!

NBCM Board Meeting Update
Jon and I (Marissa) traveled to Kansas City, MO this past weekend to attend the International Conference on Missions (ICOM). While there we had the pleasure of attending the North Burma Christian Mission annual board meeting that they typically hold just before the conference begins. We wanted to give you some exciting updates from that meeting!
In just a few short months the board will be traveling to Chiang Mai the last two weeks in January for their meeting that they have over there every few years. They like to go and see the mission field, the missionaries, and the fruits of their mission work! We are excited to announce that we will be joining them in Thailand for the first time and get to visit Joel and Marilyn in their new home! Joel has promised us a ride on an elephant and the chance to eat monkey meat! We will also be there during Chinese New Year and get to participate in the festivities on January 25th!
Next year NBCM will be celebrating 100 years of ministry and ICOM will be helping us celebrate with a larger booth space and possibly some recognition during the main sessions and/or workshops. We are still planning a lot of the details, but we are wanting to do an interactive exhibit with pictures and videos about the history of NBCM. We invite you to come and celebrate with us at next years' ICOM in Indianapolis, IN November 19-22, 2020!
