Dear Parents and Carers,

There will be a UK Parliamentary Election on Thursday 12th December. The school will be used as a polling station and will be closed to pupils. We will be sending out another reminder nearer to the time.

Message from Taylorshaw - New school meal provider
Taylorshaw is the new catering provider for Woodfield school and we are looking forward to working with you and providing your school meals.
Our menus are designed to be compliant with the Government's school and food standards. We Use high quality, healthy and nutritious ingredients, prepared fresh on site by suitable trained and child focus employees. At the heart of our service lies a menu that contains the correct balance of food and nutrients across the week, in order to encourage children to learn, love food, play and grow.
We will be organising a parent taster day and the menu flyer will be issued to each parent with the area manager's contact details for any feedback or just to get in touch if you would like to know more about Taylorshaw.

Parent Consultation and Information session on RSE (Relationship & Sex Education)
With changes being made to the RSE policy from September 2020, it is important that we understand our duty towards the Law and how we, as a community can incorporate the requirements whilst keeping the needs of our students in mind.
We are going to have one more RSE Information session on the 12th of November, starting at 10:30, for KS 3 parents to discuss how RSE will be taught in lessons. You will also be informed on what videos will be used and if any pupils will be watching them.
Any parents from KS 4 and 5, who missed the information session on 8th October are welcome to attend.
We shall be putting the policy for consultation on the website, for those who would like to read it and get back with suggestions. However, we encourage parents to come to the workshop so we can answer any questions or concerns you may have.

Please contact the office or Patsy to reserve your place, as places are limited.

Odd Socks Day
Anti-Bullying Week happens in schools across England each November. This year's Anti-Bullying Week has the theme Change Starts with Us and is happening from Monday 11th November - Friday 15th November 2019.  At Woodfield school, we would like to celebrate Odd socks Day on the 12th of November to celebrate differences and to give the right to every individual to express one’s individuality. Your child can wear an odd pair of socks to support the cause and make a voluntary contribution of £1. All the money collected from this will go to Anti-bullying Alliance.

Annual Flu Vaccination is now due
From the NHS Immunisation Team

This vaccination programme is in place to help protect your child against flu. Flu can be an unpleasant illness and sometimes causes serious complications.  Vaccinating your child will also help protect more vulnerable friends and family by preventing the spread of flu.

Please complete the consent form (download and complete one for each child) and return to the school as soon as possible to make sure your child receives their vaccination. Please be aware that if the form is not completed correctly, this may result in your child not receiving the vaccination on the day.

The vaccination is free and recommended for young children, and will be given by a quick and simple spray up the nose.

A leaflet explaining the vaccination programme can be viewed here, and includes details about the small number of children for whom the nasal vaccine is not appropriate.

Last year, most children offered the vaccine in schools had the immunisation.

If you have any queries, please contact the immunisation team on 01895 485740.

Yours sincerely,

Immunisation Team

If your child becomes wheezy or has their asthma medication increased after you return this form, please contact the healthcare team on 01895 485740.

If you decide you do not want to vaccinate your child against flu, please return the consent form giving the reason. This will help us plan and improve the service.

Parent Consultation on RSE
It was a pleasure to have few parents from KS 4 and 5, for the Parents' coffee morning on RSE. This helps us to shape and share our Policy and curriculum with the parents. Getting the parental community involved in shaping the RSE curriculum and the policy is paramount to us.

With changes being made to RSE policy from September 2020, it is important that we understand our duty towards the Law and how we as a community can incorporate the requirements keeping the needs of our students in mind.

We are going to have one more RSE Coffee morning on 19th November for KS 3 parents and any parent who missed the chance to do so on 8th October.
Please attend the workshop on 19th November.

We shall also be putting the policy for consultation on the website, for those who would like to read it and make suggestions. However, we encourage parents to come to the workshop, as we can discuss and go through the videos we plan to use in the lessons.

Student Mentors
We are appointing Student Mentors from year 11 at the moment. These pupils have to apply for the position and they wear a blue polo shirt with Student Mentor on the back. They act as good role models for our younger children. They support and help in the playground and of course they are wonderful examples of how to follow the school rules. If your child is in Year 11 please talk to them about applying to be a Student Mentor.

Old uniform
If you have any old uniform which no longer fits your child, please can we ask you to send it in. It can be washed and used as spare clothing in the medical room for pupils who should need it. Along side this, any clothing which is not labelled and left in the lost property box will be used as spare clothing in medical room

Nut free School
Dear Parents/guardians, please ensure if your child has packed lunches, they do not contain NUTS (Nutella spread, chocolate, yoghurts with nuts inside) We are a nut free zone school. Thank you for your co-operation. There is a section regarding school lunches on our website. Click here for details

School Money
Reminder to all parents/carers that we are a cashless school and take card payments via the School Money website or phone. Everyone should have received log in information via text by now, if you haven't then please contact Laila or Shilpa via the school office. We advise all parents to keep up with payments. You are able to pay in advance per week or per term, which ever method suits you best. If you have any questions regarding this then please feel free to contact Laila or Shilpa.

Emergency Contact
Due to a change in safeguarding regulations that came into force at the start of term, in addition to parent/carer details, we must have at least two other persons as emergency contacts for all our pupils. These people could be parents, a sibling aged over 18, aunts, uncles etc.

It is vital that we are able to get hold of a contact person in the case of a pupil emergency or illness.  In the past we have had issues in contacting parents or guardians, which not only creates concern for the school but also makes pupils anxious.

The Keeping Children Safe in Education September 2019 document guidance has full details.
Therefore, we will be requesting this information from all parents/carers shortly.

Signing pupils in
For pupils being dropped off to school, we would be very grateful if parents/carers could please remember to sign their children in to the correct folder. If a child appears to be absent we will always contact home to check. This is for health and safety reasons because we are responsible for each child during the time they are in school. Therefore it is essential we know which children are present at school. If you bring your child in late or collect them early for any reason, please make sure that School Reception are aware that your child has arrived or left school.

Parent Teacher Association (PTA) - Starting up in September 2019
As a school we would like to set up a parent teacher association. The PTA will promote the interests of the students at the school by organising social events, training opportunities and arranging talks on topics of interest to parents and organising fund raising events. This will be a valuable asset as parents will feel more involved in our school as a community. We are aiming set up the association in September and would like as many parents as possible to get involved and show support. If you would like to get involved please contact Patsy - Parent liaison officer.

Teacher Training
Do you know anyone who would like a career change or a recent graduate interested in training to be a teacher? Salaried training or training with a tax free bursary could be theirs by training with Woodfield to become a teacher. See here for more details, or contact the Woodfield Teaching School Alliance

School uniform
Please can we remind parents of the correct uniform which includes a white polo top / shirt with black jumper, trousers/skirt and black school shoes (not trainers). We do not currently have a school logo on our uniform and so these items can be easy to find in most major supermarkets.

Please note that caps and hoodies are not permitted to be worn inside the school. These items can be worn as an extra layer whilst at break/lunch and only outside.

Diarrhoea and Vomiting
Diarrhoea and vomiting are common in adults, children and babies. We have had a few cases over the last couple of weeks, so we thought we'd include this advice from the NHS. Diarrhoea and/or vomiting are often caused by a stomach bug and should stop in a few days. If your child is affected by diarrhoea or vomiting, they should stay off school or work until they have not been sick or had diarrhoea for at least 2 days. Please read the NHS advice on diarrhoea or vomiting, and check out NHS advice "Is my Child too ill for school?" which may help you with making a decision about whether or not to keep your child home for the day. as always, we recommend you seek professional medical advice if you are unsure of anything.

Sufra NW London
Sufra NW-London is a charity based in Stonebridge which provides a food bank and community kitchen services to those in need. Woodfield School is now working with Sufra as a referral agency. We are able to issue a voucher to parent/carer to enable them to visit and be provided with a food parcel which contains a week’s supply of food for the whole family. If you require more information or assistance, please contact Patsy, our Parent Liaison Officer. Rest assured, as always, that meetings of this nature are treated confidentially.
