The Week That Was: New Music + Galaxie 500 + Supergroups

And Mike Wagner, too!

Monday Nov 4 - November is really here and we got back on schedule with new music. Patrick dished up new Angel Olsen and Ubik.
Tuesday Nov. 5 - Jim dropped his new music picks, including a totally bitchin' track from Corridor and a cool tune from Palehound.
Wednesday Nov. 6 - Mr. Mike Wagner dialed in for a discussion about the things that happen after a record is recorded. Like mastering and stuff. And the 'Mats, too.
Thursday Nov. 7 - Nick Scalera was in the basement and we got to talking about Galaxie 500's stone cold classic On Fire. This is an episode you're gonna enjoy. If you can keep from crying, that is.
Friday Nov. 8 - Mike Snider opened a can of worms with Friday's episode, getting into the musical soup that is supergroups. We have a feeling there is going to be a lot of reaction to this episode. Press play now if you haven't already.

Friday New Releases!

Even though it's Sunday, these are still new albums and we hope you did your Friday duty and went to the record store to visit the new releases.

Taylor Hawkins & the Coattail Riders - Get the Money (RCA)
Just about every Foo has a side project, but Hawkins is the only one who truly seems to understand how his fits into the rock ’n’ roll universe. Hence, the name of his band, and the album’s title. That Hawkins developed into a fan favorite is an achievement in itself; he’s the drummer backing up the guy many fans still think should be behind the kit. He “gets it,” and this album shows it too. Hawkins enlists stars like Chrissie Hyde and Joe Walsh and Perry Ferrell and, yes, Dave Grohl too, to plow through a collection of straight-on, and often self-deprecating, rock tunes.

Mount Eerie with Julie Doiron - Lost Wisdom, Pt. 2 (P.W. Elverum & Sun)
This album deals with Phil Elverum’s journey through grief and loss, themes he started in 2008’s Lost Wisdom. These new songs deal primarily with the death of his first wife and separation from his second. Singer Doiron helps him work through the pain.

The Wonder Stuff - Better Being Lucky (Good Deeds)
The ninth album from this British alterna-rock band (with a regularly changing cast of members outside of leader Miles Hunt) continues the big guitar sound, often backed by keyboards and accented with folky touches. It may sound a bit out of place in 2019, but it can still be a wonder to experience.

Various - Too Late to Pray: Defiant Chicago Roots (Bloodshot)
Next week we talk about Americana music on Suburbs Pod. If you’re new to the genre, this compilation, celebrating the 25th anniversary of Chicago’s Bloodshot Records (one of the top labels in the alt-country biz) is a good starting point. Featuring Jon Langford, Robbie Fulks, Freakwater and other true believers.
