• American-born Hoda Muthana said on Saturday she regrets having joined the ISIS terrorist group and is appealing to escape Syria and return to America to raise her young son 
• The U.S. government has initially rejected Muthana’s plea, citing the fact that she is not an American citizen. Upon her arrival in Syria in 2014, Muthana burned her American passport and renounced her citizenship
• Earlier this year, former ISIS bride Shamima Begum was refused British citizenship and forced to return to Syria, setting a global precedent
