Prayer
Ever-living God,
We remember those whom you have
gathered from the storm of war
into the peace of your presence.
May that same peace calm our fears,
bring justice to all peoples
and establish harmony among the nations.
Through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen.
Catherine and Marcellin... pray for us.

Principal's Report

END OF YEAR EVENTS
The school year is rapidly coming to a close and the next four weeks will see a number of significant events.
Next Wednesday our Marist campus College assembly will be held to acknowledge our Peer Support Leaders for 2020 and to announce the appointment of our 2020 Head Girl, Head Boy and the Executive Officers.
Parents are welcome to attend this assembly, which will be held in the Sports Centre at 8.45am.

The Mercy campus College assembly will be held on Tuesday 26 November at 8.45am and will acknowledge the outgoing Peer Support Leaders, present the 2020 Peer Support Leaders and will acknowledge Year 10 student Awards recipients.
The Marist campus Year 10 Awards ceremony will be held on Friday 6 December.
Parents are very welcome to attend these events.

The Year 12 Mercy campus Graduation ceremony is to be held on Friday 22 November at Christ the Living Vine parish and the Marist campus Graduation ceremony will be held on Tuesday 26 November at St Patrick’s Cathedral.
These are both very special occasions enabling the College community and families to celebrate the conclusion of five years of secondary education for our Class of 2019.

Presentation Evening - Tuesday 3 December - 6.30pm - Bunbury Regional Entertainment Centre
This year our Presentation Evening will be a special event as the final opportunity to celebrate as a two campus school. From 2020 each school will hold their separate ceremonies.
This year we are honoured to have both the Bishop and Dr Debra Sayce, Executive Director of Catholic Education attending.

The families of award winners have been notified by mail and email and are able to request tickets from the BREC until Monday 25 November.
The BREC is able to issue tickets to the BCC general community from Tuesday 26 November, once all award winners and their families have been accommodated.
Any queries about tickets for the evening can be directed to Mrs Deborah Garbutt.

Students who will be performing on the night will be informed by the teacher coordinating their item.
Award winners and performers will need to arrive at the BREC by 5.50pm.

We all look forward to this exciting evening, as we celebrate the successes of students from both the Marist and the Mercy campuses, for the final time.

NOTICE OF MEETING: COMMUNITY MEETING – MONDAY 25 NOVEMBER
The Annual General Meeting of the College Board and P&F, the Community Meeting, will be held at 7.00pm on Monday 25 November in the Marist Sports Pavilion. All parents are welcome to attend.

FINAL EXAMINATIONS
Our Year 12 ATAR students are on the final run of examinations with the last papers on Politics & Law and Music to be held on Wednesday.
Please keep them in your prayers as they undertake their final assessments for their secondary education.

Year 11 students are currently completing their examinations with the final paper to be conducted next Tuesday.
We wish our Year 11 students all the best as they conclude their coursework and end their school year on Friday 22 November.
Examinations and final assessments for our younger students commence on 25 November and the Year 10 students will sit their first papers on Monday 2 December.
The focus for the coming weeks should be revision of all courses to enable each student to achieve their best.

God bless

College Activities

Outward Adventure
Year 10 students from both campuses returned from their week-long Outward Adventure last Monday 4 November.
Both Outward Bound and Explorus were good experiences for the students, who had mostly positive weather despite one stormy night.
The array of experiences available on both camps challenged students and the reports from all sites were mostly positive.
Students also received a day to recover with a student-free day scheduled for the following day.
Remembrance Day
Both campuses marked Remembrance Day on Monday with a short but poignant service.
The day honours the end of World War I and services include the Last Post and a minute's silence at 11am.
Students observed the occasion respectfully and we were grateful to have four horses from the Australian Lighthorse present at the Marist campus service.
Junior Maths Olympiad
Last month, Bunbury Catholic College entered 16 students into the West Australian Junior Mathematics Olympiad.
Dedicated staff and students gave up their Saturday to tackle and enjoy very difficult mathematics.
Perrie Goater from the Marist campus won the Year 8 division and Michael Yates from the Mercy campus was the Year 9 runner-up.
The Year 8 Marist team also came away with the Most Outstanding Year 8 Team award, while our Year 9 Mercy team was runner-up in their division.

Mercy Campus

Outdoor Recreation Camp
Two weeks ago, students from both campuses headed off to the Certificate II in Outdoor Recreation surf camp.
Students were able to enjoy plenty of time on the water during the camp, and thanks to some drone footage from Mercy campus teacher Mr Ryan McGeoch, we have some wonderful photos of the students in action.

Marist Campus

Learning Commons showcased
The engaging display in our Marist Learning Commons has received praise for its ability to engage students in reading.
It was highlighted in an article by publishing company Fremantle Press, as part of their Creative Classrooms competition which we have entered.
Last term, author Dianne Wolfer visited the College and engaged with students in collaboration with a World War I-themed display which also highlighted three of her books.
The College's Director of Library Services Colleen Edwards was interviewed as part of the article and discussed the inspiration behind what the Learning Commons produces and its aims.
The article is a wonderful endorsement for the learning opportunities available at Bunbury Catholic College and you can access the article by clicking in the link below.

Year 11 indoor soccer
During recent weeks, the Marist campus gym has hosted an exciting indoor soccer competition.
Four teams of Year 11 students have played in a round-robin tournament and have been joined by a staff team for a series of competitive and close matches that were played in a good spirit.
The matches also entertained crowds, who have spent their lunch times watching the high-quality action.
Poetry prize
Year 9 Marist campus student Carl McIntyre has experienced success with a poem he wrote, which is published in full, and has also explained his inspiration.

"I entered this haiku in to the Shore Lines Writing for Performance Festival and won second place in the Secondary School section, as well as the opportunity to be on Bunbury Community Radio.
I was inspired by current environmental issues, and books like Arthur C. Clarke’s '2001: A Space Odyssey'."
A Universal Theory
From a single point.
Fire and smashing, the stars birthed.
Expansion ensues.
Humans live and fight,
The short time we have, we waste.
Autumn gone, stars cooled.
Maybe we’ll still float.
Maybe we’ll still be searching.
Maybe we’ll be gone.
Only gravity.
How can darkness get darker?
Space and time survive.
Time isn’t observed.
Matter ends, no crescendo.
Space ends, just with cold.
The end.

Thomas qualifies for State athletics team
Year 8 Mercy campus student Thomas Cross continues to achieve in the athletics world.
He has earned qualification into the WA team for the upcoming All School Sports Nationals, which will be held at the WA Athletics Stadium in Perth next month.
Thomas earned selection in the team through his performances at the WA All School Sports Championships, held two weeks ago at the WA Athletics Stadium.
Representing the BCC Mercy Campus, Thomas came home with three gold medals in the under-14's 400m, 800m and 1500m.
College represented at Singa Cup
Bunbury Catholic College was well represented in the Singa Cup soccer competition held last week.
Marist campus Year 11 students Flynn Lowcock and Matt Curtis represented South West Phoenix in the under-16 division alongside Year 9 student Tom Steele while another Year 9 student, Liam Heelan, played in Phoenix's under-14 team.
The annual tournament in Singapore brings junior teams from around the world together and the students were able to compete against teams from Malaysia, Singapore, Nepal, Indonesia and Philippines.
Matt (pictured) was named player of the tournament for the under-16s, who reached the quarter-finals and only lost to the two teams who made the final.
Rowing team helped by Zooties
Our rowing team are ready for action in their new ‘Zooties’, or rowing suits, which have been funded by the P&F.
The Zooties are designed to allow maximum unrestricted movement and prevent any loose items of clothing snagging on the slides or seat runners, a common problem with ordinary sports apparel.
The students are now hard at work training every Friday afternoon at the Bunbury Rowing Club.
Bunbury Catholic College and Bunbury Rowing Club have produced some excellent rowers over the years, including Olympian Alex Hagan.
If any students are keen to try a sport that combines concentration, coordination, stamina and strength; that is the pinnacle of teamwork and they can pursue their whole life, please come on Friday afternoon and have a go for the red, white and green!
