The behavior of electricity consumers is the target of new design rules and policies. Energy efficiency self-consumption, demand management and aggregation of the available flexibility are the challenges to be addressed in such a new context which pave the way toward new ways of consuming electricity.
We are delighted to invite you to a workshop, hosted by FOSS Research Centre for Sustainable Energy of the University of Cyprus, titled “Emerging Energy Systems & the role of Demand Response”. The workshop will address the evolving new electricity market and Demand Response, focusing on the concept of the aggregator and two EU funded research and innovation projects, DELTA and DRIMPAC. Working on the next generation of demand response technology and innovation, DELTA and DRIMPAC are inviting all those interested in smart grids and the future of energy markets to join them in discussing the latest trends in energy flexibility.
Relevant stakeholders from policy, industry and end-consumers will come together to exchange views in a transparent and constructive way on the challenges ahead. Guests will have the opportunity to learn about the innovative areas of research which the projects are pioneering. The workshop will emphasize on the user engagement activities which inhabit or operate within the pilot sites as well as addressing their concerns. The main aim is to finalize the recruitment and preparation of the citizens as well as to motivate them so that they actively participate. Additionally, discussions on the project objectives and how they will impact the future energy markets will be held enabling guests to provide feedback which will assist in the validation of user requirement and business cases.
The workshop and conference will take place on the 22nd of November at the University of Cyprus Library.

Workshop agenda
Past events

On the 24th of October DRIMPAC consortium organized the first stakeholder meeting to collect their feedbacks on the business cases and on the DRIMPAC requirements gathered in the first year of the project. The active participation of energy consumers in the energy markets, is moving into the foreground as means to:
•    improve services for consumers
•    integrate more variable renewable energy sources
•    enable the cost-effective uptake of electric vehicles
•    relieve pressure on energy networks
The four pilot cases were presented by UCY, with a detailed description of each peculiarities.
HYPERTECH explained the relevancy of the stakeholder ecosystem and of the user engagement for the project and E7 shared the business model strategy adopted for the project.
The participants all shared their interest in the project aims and asked to be kept up to date with all the new developments.

The seventh edition of SINNOVA closed on 4 October 2019. The Innovation Exhibition of Sardinia, an annual event on the themes of future technologies, saw the participation of over 2,500 visitors who wanted to spend a few hours among the companies’ stands or watch the in-depth moments dedicated to the latest innovations.
Great success for the meetings organized by ICE in the context of the South Export Plan, in collaboration with the Regional Department of Industry and Sardinia Researches. There were 20 foreign investors from all over the world who were able to meet about 50 Sardinian companies to make agreements and start collaborations.
Over 90 companies presented their projects for the future together with local institutions and bodies such as CRS4, Porto Conte Ricerche, IMC, Jic (Joint Innovation Center), the Universities of Cagliari and Sassari, Digital Innovation Hub Sardinia, the Eurodesk Center of the regional URP. STAM team was there to present the main first year's results of DRIMPAC project and involving relevant stakeholders to join the stakeholder ecosystem.
The DRIMPAC consortium gathered for its general assembly meeting in Athens on 30th of September 2019 at the premises of HYPERTECH. The meeting lasted two days and was attended by all partner organisations and was held in the city center of Athens. The final version of DRIMPAC first leaflet was presented during the meeting and discussed by the whole consortium. The technical discussion covered the most of the second day, creating a good start for the next months. This meeting was a great chance to be all on the same page and close successfully the first year of the project. The next General Assembly Meeting of DRIMPAC will take place in St Julien Montdenis, France during 11-12 February 2020, hosted by SOREA.
Sustainable Places prides itself on being an ideal platform for the dissemination of research, the conduct of workshops, EU project clustering and networking between stakeholders of all types. Sustainability targets and climate change objectives cannot be met without addressing buildings and the built environment at the building, district and urban scale to include transport and energy infrastructures. Renowned for showcasing results coming out of the EU Horizon 2020 Framework Programme via the participation of cutting-edge research and innovation projects, the scope of Sustainable Places is captured directly in the name. It involves designing, building and retrofitting the places we live and work in a more sustainable way. DRIMPAC project participated with a poster and presented its solutions for energy generation and demand flexibility of buildings,

e7 has been involved in several national and European projects, e.g. in the fields of energy services (TRANSPERENSE, ChangeBest, EPC+, QualitEE) and flexibility markets (NOVICE, DELTA, DRIMPAC, PARITY). e7 also coordinated the Austrian part of IEA Task 16 - Energy Efficiency and Demand Response Services.
Within the DRIMPAC project, e7 is responsible for the analysis of flexibility markets, where the DRIMPAC solution should be implemented, the development of innovative business models and the formulation of policy reform recommendations. Close contacts to relevant stakeholders (public administration, associations, companies) in the electricity market can directly be utilized in this project.
Regulatory framework conditions will change quite dramatically in the coming years on the European and national state level. This development will most likely set the path towards a favorable legal and market environment helping DRIMPAC to unleash its huge potential for a valuable contribution towards the energy transition.
In each newsletter, a partner organization will be briefly presented.
