DEPOSIT RETURN SCHEME DISCUSSION

When: 3.45pm until 5pm on Wednesday 20th November 2019
Where: Queen Margaret University

As you may know, Scotland will soon be introducing a deposit return scheme for drinks containers. Deposit return schemes are used across the world as a way of encouraging people to recycle drinks containers such as cans and bottles. They work by charging anyone who buys a drink a small deposit, which they can get back when they return the bottle or can.
At the moment, the Scottish deposit return scheme will apply to drinks containers (bottles and cans made of plastic, metal and glass) but it is possible that the scheme will extend beyond this in the future to other containers.

Scottish drinks producers will be partly responsible for the costs of the scheme as they will have to pay a producer fee on every unit that they put onto the market. You can find out more about the scheme here: https://depositreturnscheme.zerowastescotland.org.uk/

We invite our members to come along to Queen Margaret University on the 20th of November to chat with one another about the deposit return scheme and the impact it may have. We can then feedback any questions or comments the group has to the relevant bodies.

If you’d like to come along, please email
