“Honoring the sacrifices many have made for our country in the name of freedom and democracy is the very foundation of Veterans Day.” -Charles Rangel

Principal Corner
Thank you to all Westwood Staff members for an amazing day of work last Friday during our 2 hour early release day. It was great having the entire staff together learning and collaborating. Your input is valued and I appreciate the positive attitude in which tackle concerns at Westwood. A big shout out to our Leadership Team for facilitating conversations last week. The strength of our building is leading from within and I value all our teacher leaders in our building. You are an amazing staff and I know you have heard that before, but kudos to all of you!!!

Admin Intern Report
I appreciated our conversations around Culture, Climate, and Self-Care last Friday. It has been wonderful to listen to and read your feedback. So many of us took Friday as an opportunity to recommit to a Self Care ritual that we may have been neglecting, as October and November often leaving us feeling like “Bulls”. Continue to do things to feed your soul. You deserve it! Remember at Westwood what you DO matters, and what you THINK matters!

Veterans Day Program
Our Veterans Day program will be held at 10:00 on November 11th. Please have your artwork hung in the gym on Monday morning in honor of the event. We have invited families and Veterans in that day to recognize and honor them for their service. Please let students know the colors they should wear that day.

Math Family Breakfast
Tuesday, November 12th at 7:00 we will be hosting our first Title One Family Engagement breakfast for the year. Parents and students will be arriving at 7:00. If you have volunteered to help out during the event, please arrive by 6:50 that morning to help with the set up. Thank you to all staff that volunteered their time that morning to support the event. Once students and families finished with breakfast they will be encouraged to participate in Math Activities across the building..

Westwood 50th Anniversary Celebration
We will be hosting a celebration event for former staff and students of Westwood on Thursday, November 14th.  We have sent out invitations and promoted the event through various social media outlets. It will be a casual event, and if you have time in your day, please stop down to the Media Center that day for cake and refreshments. The time of event will be 10:00-11:30.

Holiday Gift Shop
Many of us have crafty talents and there is nothing better than homemade holiday gifts. It is also a lot of fun to see each others unique talents. During Thanksgiving week (November19-21), let’s open a holiday gift shop in the extended teacher’s lounge. Bring in your crafts with name and prices. Payments can be made directly to the crafter. This is a fun way to cross some people off your list and put a little holiday money in your wallet.

Thinking Map Classroom Posters
In a collaborative effort, a student -centered set of classroom thinking maps has been created. If you are interested in having a set made for your classroom, let me know. I am planning to order them in color on, 11x18 sized paper. There are eight Thinking Maps in total. The empty box is for you to fill in as you develop skills with students; this could include making a list of all the times/activities/topics your class covered when they created the map.

Announcements
From the Office
- If you have any custodial needs, please send Rich an email with your room number and name.

-Abby will be at the DAO on Tuesday from 10:45-1:30.

From the Kitchen

Lunch Trays: Please make sure that you are returning any lunch trays that may be in your room or the staff lounge the SAME DAY. Many trays have been coming back days to weeks later with mold all over them which then we are having the throw away.

Field Trips:
If your class will be attending a field trip, please give the kitchen 10 days notice so that they can make sure the food is ordered so they can prepare bag lunches.

Staff Lunches:
Please make sure that you are letting the kitchen know if you will be eating hot lunch or want a salad or wrap by 9:30 every day. We need to make sure that we are counting you when they are preparing lunches for the day.
