SESSIONS


Nov 14/15—Post-Concert Sessions: Cape Breton's singer/songwriter extraordinaire Keith Mullins will be playing two house concerts on Thu/Fri which will be followed by jam sessions. Bring an instrument to the concert and play a few tunes or sing a song to end the night. One session in Kanata, and the other in rural south Ottawa, details in concert section below. 

Nov 17—Pub Session: 2pm-5pm -The Barley Mow Merivale Road 1541 Merivale Rd, Ottawa ON. Pipers, fiddlers, box players, guitarists, singers and piano players, everyone welcome to come play some music with us.  From the 416 take the Maitland Ave. exit southbound, you'll end up right on Merivale Rd. There is parking in front of the building, enter off Capilano Dr. or Merivale northbound. Lots more parking just behind the building (by the gas station). On bus route 176.Website  Good food and good beer, breakfast served until 2pm. Jam ouverte avec concentration sur le pieces de l’ile du Cap Breton, de l’Écosse et de Glengarry. Apportez un instrument ou venez partager une chanson avec nous. Ou, venez savourez la musique et notre plaisir. On ne sait jamais qui s’y présentera, mais c’est certainement toujours un groupe avec un accueil amical avec qui passer l’après-midi.



Nov 24—Celtic Jam Session and Open Mic: 2pm-4pm - Vibration Studios 5488 Osgoode Main St, Osgoode, ON. MAP Part of the Sunday Coffeehouse Series, following a concert by featured performers (2 noon to 2 pm) the  floor opens up for a an open mic and/or jam session. Sign up to play solo or play along with the group. This lovely venue is perfectly suited for sessions, with a low rise stage, all the sound gear you could want and great acoustics. There is lots of space for audiences and jammers, with a variety of seating configurations. Bring your instruments to play with the group, or sign up to play on your own. This week's coffee house will have a Celtic/East Coast theme, with featured performer Anna Ludlow who usually ends her shows by inviting the audience up to play in the finale. Nov 24—Reel Sloow Jam: 2pm-5pm - Hosted by Debbie and Gary at 138 Chimo Dr. Kanata.  The slow jams are popular so please sign up to make sure you get a seat to sit on! Queensway 417 to Kanata, exit at Castlefrank on left at the light. Turn left on Katimavik. Turn right on Chimo, 2nd driveway on the left. Google Map Park in driveway or on nearby streets. Dec 1—Pub Session: 2pm-5pm - Gracie's Brew Pub and Music Hall (formerly Grace O'Malley's East Coast Pub) 1151 Ogilvie Road Google Map Spend an afternoon with your friends and family and some great down home style socializing. This session is a great place to meet up with friends over a pint or cup of tea while listening to a varied group of musicians play traditional Cape Breton, Irish and Scottish tunes. All players of fiddles, guitars, mandolins, whistles, accordions etc. welcome to join in. This session is mostly group playing with a few solos, let us know if you have something special to share with the group. Sheet music permitted.  Generally a pretty fast pace.  Jam ouverte avec concentration sur le pieces de l’ile du Cap Breton, de l’Écosse et de Glengarry. Nov 15—House Concert: 7:30 pm KEITH MULLINS | KEV CORBETT Hosted by Jen, Dan and Beth at  3581 McCartney St. in rural Ottawa South. Enjoy the sounds of these fabulous musicians in the warmth of a log home in a forested setting with a jam session/song circle to end the evening. Bring your instruments and singing voices! Reservations required, although there is usually room for one or two extras! BYOB, snacks optional but welcome. Doors open 7pm, concert starts at 7:30. Keith Mullins has been playing music all his life. Raised in Cape Breton, NS where his family played all styles of music from the hits to jazz, from Cape Breton fiddling to country, music runs thick through his blood. Keith is a multiple award winning songwriter with a degree in classical music and has studied with master drummers in West Africa and Cuba. From tender ballads that make audiences swoon to rockin' and funky dance beats it's hard to stay in your seat when Keith is playing. He's played around the world sharing the spotlight with some genuine musical greats such as Matt Anderson, Ron Hynes, Bruce Guthro, Lennie Galant, Gordie Sampson, Jimmy Rankin, Natalie MacMaster, The Mellotones, Garrett Mason and many, many more. garnered several industry Awards including two ECMAs and six Music Nova Scotia awards, of which two are for Musician of the Year. Keith plays over 250 shows a year and is currently touring across Canada to promote his latest album (Onward and Upward). Keith will be accompanied by Kev Corbett - pirate, a son of a preacher man, a carpenter, and a well-known character in East Coast music circles as well as being a bassist, drummer, and a song writer. 

Nov 24—ANNA LUDLOW Sunday Coffee House: 12pm-2pm This week Anna is reprising her role in DRUM! in a special Halifax performance for Barack Obama, next week she'll be in the village of Osgoode, ON MAP  playing her special brand of Celtic folk music for us regular folk. The Coffee House is a Pay What You Can/Tip Jar event - drop your contribution into the top hat (yes, it really is a top hat!) and enjoy the music in the quiet listening atmosphere. Vibration Studios is a warm and welcoming place where you can have a great cup of coffee (or wine/beer) surrounded by lovely works of art while listening to (or playing) wonderful music. Try one of their tempting baked treats, or bring in your own home cooked picnic meal or enjoy something from one of the nearby restaurants such as the highly acclaimed Red Dot Cafe or Milano's Pizzeria.
