Today for Veterans Day, we take the briefest of moments to recognize the men and women who have made a commitment to serve and sacrifice in the name of freedom. Veterans Day, originally known as Armistice Day, was celebrated post-World War I as a day to honor fallen soldiers of the Great War. Nearly 20 years later, congress officially adopted November 11 as a legal holiday.

As a reminder, general operations at City Hall were CLOSED today in observance of Veterans Day. Waste Collection will be delayed one day and there will be no bulk pick-up. Yard waste pick up for Zones 1 & 2 will be Saturday, November 16.
Veterans Day Ceremony
Today, the City of Aberdeen observed a Veterans Day Ceremony to honor the brave men and women who serve our nation with extraordinary pride and valor. The day's commemorations included a placing of the wreaths, gun salute, and keynote speaker Col. (Retired) Laurie Moe Buckhout. Special thanks to the American Legion Bernard L. Tobin Post 128. for spearheading this year's ceremony.
Flags for Our Veterans
The Aberdeen Chamber of Commerce was hard at work last week placing the Flags of Honor, a dazzling display of one-hundred sponsored American Flags at Festival Park, in observance of Veterans Day. Special thanks to the Chamber and Horne Concrete for embedding permanent piping beneath the dirt to allow for easy installation of these flags. This will allow us to have more displays throughout the year!
Your Voice, Your Vote
Hundreds of Aberdeen residents came out to vote last week in the Aberdeen Municipal Election. Mayor Patrick McGrady will once again serve us as Mayor of Aberdeen, and Councilwoman Sandra Landbeck & Councilman Tim Lindecamp will be returning. New to the Council are Councilmen Adam M. Hiob and Jason Kolligs. These five individuals will serve for the next four years, with a new election on November 7th of 2023 (doesn't that sound like a long time away?).
A Smashing Success!
Our first ever Aberdeen Pumpkin Express was a smashing success, with over 120 ghoulish gourds departing from the station on a one-way trip to Compostland, where they will be re-purposed in an Eco-friendly way. Special thanks to our partners at Veteran Compost for supporting this initiative and to our Aberdeen residents for their commitment to environmentally-conscious living!
Welcome to Lily's Attic
The brisk, sub-40 degree November chill didn't stop us from welcoming our new friends at Lily's Attic to the City of Aberdeen with a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony!  Lily's Attic is a blast from the past vintage shop full of eclectic collectibles and trinkets. You never know what you'll find, so head on over to 20 W. Bel Air Ave and let the treasure hunt begin!
Stay Off the Tracks!
As a reminder, W Bel Air Ave will experience intermittent traffic delays during ongoing construction. While construction crews are doing their best to keep traffic moving, please use your better judgement and avoid stopping on the railroad tracks. Your life is more valuable than those extra few minutes you would be trying to save.
Veterans and their families:  In honor of this year’s Veterans Day, we are proud to offer a link to a very special group of Vets who are also entrepreneurs or entrepreneur wannabes.  Check out Bunker Labs, which is by and for prior service personnel who have the itch create something and be their own boss.  View the official Bunker Labs website here for more information!
