Principal's Message

Yesterday marked the start of the second trimester and it has already been a busy Fall for the students and staff at EGRMS. We are excited to take some time this week Thursday at our General PTO Meeting to not only reflect on the first part of the year and the many great events that have taken place, but also to look ahead to the rest of the school year. We hope all parents and guardians will be able to join us starting at 9:00 a.m. on Thursday, November 21st for this meeting. I am looking forward to continuing to meet more of you and will be sharing a short "Get to know the Principal" presentation. The PTO will have coffee available starting at 8:30 a.m. if you would like to come early!

Report cards will be available on Friday this week and are accessible on Skyward.

As always, please feel free to reach out to me if there's anything I can do to support your student.

Sincerely,
Jeff Dykhouse
Principal

EGRMS Student Council

Several male faculty members have started growing mustaches for a Gilda's Club fundraiser sponsored by EGRMS Student Council.  Students are encouraged to vote for the best mustache by bringing in spare change.  Students can vote with their change at lunch.  The teacher who raises the most "votes" with money, will be crowned Mr. Mustache. Voting will start Monday, November 18th and continue until December 6th.  Last year students raised $460 to support Gilda's Club.  Our goal this year is $500.

Student Council is hosting an after school event during which students can build their own gingerbread house.  The event is from 3:00 pm - 4:30 pm on Wednesday, December 11th.   Participation is $5.  Students must prepay and pre-register.  Students may sign up during lunch this Thursday, Nov. 21st and Friday, Nov. 22nd.  Spots are limited. Contact Mrs. Bonner with any questions.

“You Provide the Power”

Thanks to our community’s incredible support of the East Grand Rapids Schools Foundation’s Now&Forever campaign, we won’t have to make a desperate fundraising push this spring. No more bake sales, lemonade stands and yard signs. As we promised during the Now&Forever campaign, we’re consolidating future fundraising efforts into our year-end appeal and our events. So when you see our “You Provide the Power” letter in your mail later this month, remember that this will build upon the success of the campaign so that we can not only preserve vital school programs, but also provide innovative new enhancements. Your annual donation helps ensure the education we offer our students is unsurpassed anywhere. Together, we’re investing in our future, and the future belongs to Pioneers.

East Grand Rapids High School student leaders formed a chapter of Girl Up in the 2018-2019 school year. Girl Up was founded by the United Nations Foundation in 2010 and is a powerful avenue for our young women to join together working towards gender equality worldwide.

Girl Up is facilitating a period product drive November 18-26 with the intention to provide products in the middle school female bathrooms. (Our high school students remember how difficult it can be to ask a peer/teacher for a feminine product in middle school.) Girl Up is hoping to collect tampons and pads. If you would like to donate, there will be a box in the MS main office. Thank you for considering!
