The Professional Amateur with Shira Erlichman
All Levels | 1 session | Nov 14
The word amateur comes from the French word meaning “lover of.” To be uncertain is to love is to begin—and in this class, we’ll learn how to get around writer's block and stay open to new artistic possibilities by actively cultivating the amateur within.
Embodied Ecopoetics with Jessica Gigot
All Levels | 1 session | Nov. 16
Through discussion, readings, and creative writing exercises, students will analyze moral perspectives on current environmental issues and examine the intersection of science and spirituality.
Penning the Nasty: Explorations into Writing Sexuality with Katherine Standefer
Introductory | 2 sessions | Nov. 16 & 17
In this 12-hour intensive, participants will consider the role of the sex scene in storytelling, discuss the politics and ethics of writing sex, and explore the differences between pornography, erotica, and literary sex writing.  
Outside In: Two Ways of Thinking about Character with Tom Perrotta
All Levels | 1 session | Nov. 16
Explore how character and point of view work together to shape conflict and emotional tension within works of fiction. We’ll also discuss how first- and third-person narration shape how we know our characters.
The Art of the Deeply Reported Novel with Rebecca Clarren
All Levels | 1 session | Nov. 23
This workshop will teach you how to stretch beyond the limits of your known-world, research like a journalist, and polish your own prose like a seasoned editor. 
All That Cages with Juan Felipe Herrera
All Levels | 2 sessions | Nov. 23 & 24
Take a class with former US poet laureate Juan Felipe Herrera. You'll explore new material, new ideas, and new entries into yourself, your work, and your visions of life for others in crisis.
