Dancin' like it's our birthday!

Because it is! Woot woot!

On Nov 7th, our 7th birthday, we celebrated the success of Decatur Makers from our humble beginnings when a few Founders were brainstorming the idea of a family-friendly maker community, to our growth into a wonderfully diverse and supportive membership of over 330 makers with hundreds more engaging with us in so many amazing ways across Atlanta.

We're in the business of empowering our community to be curious problem solvers through hands-on making experiences, inspiration and innovation. We want to make the larger community a better place through making.

And it's working! There are so many inspirational stories coming from our crazy creative and fearless members as well as from our youth outreach, our community gatherings, and partnerships with so many other cool organizations!

In celebration of our birthday, we're kicking off our "Why Do I Love Decatur Makers?" campaign so we can hear more of these stories. Love us? Tell us, like some of our awesome members below!

Decatur Makers Testimonial of the month:

I love Decatur Makers. It's such a great community. Everyone is so friendly and willing to help you out. And you can't beat $25 a month to use all their tools and space. If you're a maker/tinkerer, I def recommend becoming a member. They also offer classes that are all volunteer run.

What We're Making

This BeeScape Safety Tower was created by us for The Georgia Tech Urban Honey Bee Project to sit on the roof of The Kendeda Building for Innovative Sustainable Design! Inspired by the beepass made by French company Abielle Avenir, this BeeScape is constructed entirely from salvaged materials from the Kendeda Building. Special thanks to our unBEElievably dedicated member Shannon who led this project!

Member June, who leads the Decatur Robotics organization, needed some quick tshirts for this new team. She used our Silhouette cutter to create these amazing vinyl designs which she heat-pressed to the fabric. Well done! Go team!

Member Marcus is making a table with a deadline: The family’s Thanksgiving meal! He’s thankful for the tool time and space at Decatur Makers. You can do it, Marcus!

What We're Sharing

Thanks to a grant from the Decatur Rotary Club, our middle school Girl Makers Club had the opportunity to learn from Jason Paggett of Ag Made Fun and get hands-on to build their own self-watering garden from recycled plastic beer kegs. #girlmakersrock #agriculture
Through a 2 year grant from the Governor's Office of Student Achievement, the Drew Charter School brought us in to provide an intro to coding for teachers across Georgia. Here we're brainstorming with these innovative Drew teachers on coding lights with movement to add STEAM to in-classroom curriculum.
We worked with the entire 2nd grade class at Clairemont Elementary School as they began their Fall expedition: Change Agents. After putting on their inventors' caps, these creative kids put the design process to work as they built catapult launchers and then added their own improvements to their products. #ProblemSolving

Our Delicious Sponsor

We'd like to send a very, very sweet thank you to Revolution Donuts for their continued support! Their dedication to hand-crafted deliciousness is very in-line with our own mission empowering people of all ages to create and learn by building and making. Thanks so much!
