1.  Disney Imagineer sheds more light on upcoming Star Wars theme park ride

Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger wanted his team of Imagineers to go beyond anything they've done before with the next Star Wars theme park ride set to open at Orlando's Walt Disney World on Dec. 5 and at California's Disneyland on Jan. 17.  The attraction, Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance, is being described as the crown jewel of the new Star Wars: Galaxy's Edge land that just opened in August at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park in Orlando.

2.  Immersive, sustainable and meeting evolving expectations – outgoing IAAPA chair David Rosenberg on the future of the attractions industry

3.  Dubai Parks and Resorts operator reports nine-month loss, aims to breakeven in 2020

DXB Entertainments, operator of the Dubai Parks and Resorts theme park complex, has narrowed its net loss for the first nine months of this year to Dhs717m.  That compares to Dhs744m during the same period last year, an improvement of 3.6 per cent.  The improvement came on the back of reduced costs – operating costs during the period fell by 15 per cent to Dhs449m during the first nine months of this year, a statement said.

4.  Revolving door: A look back at SeaWorld's long list of short-time CEOs

SeaWorld Entertainment Inc. has a new CEO — its seventh in the past five years — with the Nov. 7 addition of Sergio D. Rivera, but it's been quite the road to get here.  During the last five years, the Orlando-based marine theme park operator (NYSE: SEAS) has had a revolving door at its top position due to executives resigning or filling in temporarily as searches were held to find the next successor. It has affected the company's stock, as well as led to some uncertainty for shareholders.

5.  Lego Star Wars Miniland display leaving Legoland parks

The Force is calling to you one last time at Legoland parks, as the Lego Star Wars Miniland model is set to be removed. For eight years, millions of Legoland guests around the world have experienced the Star Wars saga through painstaking recreations from seven of the live-action “Star Wars” films, replicated in 1:20 scale with over 1.5 million Lego bricks.

6.  Walibi Rhône-Alpes: increase in visitor numbers in 2019

The French operator group Compagnie des Alpes, which owns several amusement parks, announced its turnover for the 2018-2019 financial year. Above all, the Walibi Rhône-Alpes amusement park in France can look forward to a successful year. The park welcomed a total of 517,000 visitors in 2019, increasing its visitor numbers by 9.1 percent compared to the previous year. Above all, he owes the increase to his attractive novelty "Mystic".

17.  Toverland still makes a declaration as a result of a fight

Toverland has reported to the police after a fight. On Friday evening, two groups of visitors fought each other after the conclusion of a private event in the Limburg amusement park. Security officers were also hit.

The new wheel will replace the existing sightseeing tourist attraction in the Cancun Hotel Zone, adding another 20 meters of height. The new ferris wheel, El Sol de Cancún, will be one of the three tallest wheels in North America.

1.  Could southwest Ohio lose its only beach?!

Will there be any more summer fun at The Beach Waterpark?  The owners put the park up for sale when it closed for the season, according to a listing by Anchor Associates.  The news caught hotel operators, local businesses, even the Warren County visitors bureau by surprise Wednesday.

But international theme park expert Dennis Speigel saw it coming.  “The Beach has struggled and it really began its greatest struggle when Kings Island expanded its water park,” Speigel said,

2.  WATCH: First look at six epic new slides opening at WhiteWater World this Summer!

Locals and tourists will soon be sliding their way into Summer, with six epic new slides set to open at WhiteWater World just in time for the holidays.  The exciting new slide attraction, dubbed Fully 6, is the first new waterpark attraction to be built on the Gold Coast in five years and will be the only tower in Australia with six body slides.

3.  Plopsa Group wants to build water park and amusement park in The Hague

There are plans for the construction of a new Plopsa amusement park and swimming paradise in the city of The Hague. Plopsa director Steve Van den Kerkhof confirms this to Looopings. The Belgian Plopsa Group wants to set up a water park and an indoor amusement park near the sports and events center De Uithof in The Hague.

4.  ProSlide to celebrate Orlando legacy and industry innovation at IAAPA Expo

ProSlide Technology is preparing for a busy week at IAAPA Expo in Orlando – a city in which it has a rich history.  The Florida tourist hotspot is home not only to some of the world’s most iconic theme parks but also several leading water parks. ProSlide’s water ride technology was first featured locally at Wet ‘N Wild Orlando, widely considered to be the world’s first water park. 

5.  Bloomington gets ready to set water park tax plan in motion

Bloomington leaders are nearing final approval of an elaborate plan to help build one of the nation’s largest water parks beside the Mall of America.  The deal hinges on the city’s option to hike sales taxes at the Mall of America to pay debt on the $260 million facility, if visitors who pay to raft down 10-foot-wide slides and lounge in cabanas don’t generate enough revenue. The City Council voted unanimously Tuesday to authorize imposing the taxes — 11 years after the Legislature granted them that power — under specific circumstances that will be agreed to next month.

6.  Holiday event in Henderson looking to hire 100 seasonal workers

The annual Las Vegas Christmas Town event at Henderson’s Cowabunga Bay water park will hold a seasonal hiring event Saturday.  Organizers seek to hire more than 100 employees and will hold job interviews Saturday at Cowabunga Bay, located at 900 W. Galleria Drive.

8.  New hotel with 100-foot water slide opening at Casino del Sol

The new hotel, Estrella, is made up of six floors and 151 rooms.  Estrella also includes an arcade, a 100-foot water slide, meeting rooms, and more.  The reservation started this project 18 months ago but it has been decades in the making.
Aquarium / Zoo News

1.  Phase One of Lake Superior Zoo’s New Bear Country Exhibit Almost Complete

The new Bear Country Exhibit at the Lake Superior Zoo has been years in the making.  Construction crews are currently on site, work is being completed as quickly as possible, and four of the zoo’s new animals have arrived.

2.  Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk starts work on 4D movie theater and seal exhibit

The Maritime Aquarium at Norwalk is expanding with a large seal exhibit and 4D movie theater, in response to a railroad bridge replacement. Construction is now starting on the new additions, set to open in 2020.

3.  Zoo gets more funding in final 2020 Racine budget approval

Only one amendment, which restored Racine Zoo funding to 2019 levels, passed as part of the final approval of Racine’s 2020 budget.  All other proposed budget amendments failed or were withdrawn, including an amendment to cut two of the mayor’s staff and add two police officers.  The City Council approved the 2020 budget during its Tuesday meeting.

4.  Melbourne Zoo welcomes first baby koala in eight years

Australia's Melbourne Zoo is celebrating the arrival of its newest koala - an unnamed five-month-old joey - the first to be born at the zoo in more than eight years.  The baby has just started to peek out from its mother's pouch where it has been growing for the past few months.

5.  How adorable! Rare clouded leopard cubs born at Houston Zoo

A pair of clouded leopards were born at the Houston Zoo Tuesday morning.  The cubs were born to 7year-olds, Suksn and Tarak.  The gender of the cubs is not yet known.

6.  Giraffe Ranch brings a unique safari tour, complete with camels, to Central Florida

During a recent expedition, I embarked on a safari complete with zebras, a rhinoceros, bongo, warthogs, ostriches and giraffes.  Our method of transportation? Camelback.  It might sound like something from the African savanna, but this all happened right outside Dade City, a little more than an hour west of Orlando.  Set off from the city and highway and sitting on 47 acres of rolling Florida countryside, Giraffe Ranch welcomes visitors who want to experience exotic animals up-close, offering a range of experiences for seeing and interacting with the ranch’s inhabitants.

7.  More than 140,000 people visit Idaho Falls Zoo this season

Having seen more than 140,000 visitors over the course of the year, the Idaho Falls Zoo is now closed for the season and will reopen in April 2020.  However, education programs for all ages are still held each month and the addition of improvements like the new William J. Maeck Education Center make plans for future growth and continued enhancement of the zoo possible.

8.  World's Oldest Captive White Rhino Dies In French Zoo

The world's oldest captive white rhino, South African-born Sana, has died at the age of 55, the French zoo that she called home for the last 26 years said Thursday.  Born in 1964 in the Umfolozi National Park in South Africa's eastern KwaZulu-Natal province, the southern white rhino was transported to Europe seven years later as a zoo attraction.

1.  Venice was suffering over-tourism, an aging population and sinking foundations. Then the floods came

The popular tourist destination has been hit by the worst flooding in 50 years this week, resulting in damage worth hundreds of millions of euros. Italy's Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte said a state of emergency would be declared on Thursday because of the disaster.

2.  Thanksgiving 2019: AAA Expecting Second-Highest Travel Volume On Record

With Thanksgiving rapidly approaching, that means holiday travel is here too — and it’s expected to be even busier than usual. AAA says it’s expecting the second-highest Thanksgiving travel volume to date with more than 55 million travelers this year.

3.  Lake Tahoe ski resorts ready to open. See $9 million snowmaking investment at work

Lake Tahoe area high temperatures will range from 63 degrees to 77 degrees on Wednesday, but a handful of ski and snowboard resorts are ready to open, with Squaw Valley kicking off the 2019-2020 season in just two days.

4.  Charlotte Douglas Airport's $39M east terminal expansion to open Friday

The project cost $39 million, is a 3-story addition to the airport and is just one piece to a huge renovation at Charlotte Douglas. Next month, the airport is scheduled to begin a $600 million project to rebuild the terminal lobby, including automated screening lanes to speed up security. 

5.  Governor's Global Tourism Summit kicks off in Las Vegas

Governor Steve Sisolak got the Governor’s Global Tourism Summit started Wednesday morning at the Plaza Hotel in Downtown Las Vegas.
