Local stations serve their communities in important and unique ways each and every day. We'd love to feature photos of this great work by New Mexico broadcasters in a special year-end project.
We're looking for hi resolution 300 dpi images (color or black/white, JPG or PNG) that showcase broadcasters doing what they do best – giving back to the community. Photos may include, but are not limited to:
Investigative journalism and reporters in the field
Reporting during weather emergencies/crisis situations
Local telethons/radiothons
Charity events
Coat/food drives
General acts of kindness and goodwill
Selected photos will be featured in our year-end give-away, so be sure to send your best pictures to suzanstrong@nmba.org.

December 3 and 10 at 11am MST
The NMBA is thrilled to offer our members some exciting and important webinars in December.
The Poynter Institute will present a two-part series on covering the 2020 elections - from the pitfalls of reporting on polls to helping you determine what issues are most important to your viewers and listeners. This series is designed for everyone in your newsroom.
Covering the 2020 Election, Part 1 - Tuesday, December 3 at 11am MST
Learn to:
identify the key motivators that make any story more interesting;
focus on issues not horse-race “who’s ahead” political stories;
assess what information people are hungry for and why; summarize what makes a great soundbyte and why;
employ effective storytelling strategies in less-than-perfect situations, like what to do when the video is boring;
draw from examples of interesting and insightful stories on immigration, medical costs and student debt.
Covering the 2020 Election, Part 2 - Tuesday, December 10 at 11am MST
Dig deeper to be able to:
recognize the most common mistakes journalists make when reporting on polls;
accurately describe and discuss PACs, Super PACs and Dark Money;

Advertising Hemp Products
In recent years, there have been numerous articles and statements from USDA regulators suggesting that CBD products are often not what they claim to be – some allegedly having more THC than advertised, others having little or no actual CBD.
As NMBA Attorney Art Melendres reminds our members, "The key is still that each product that is being advertised must not contain a cannabinoid receptor type 1, which is still listed on schedule I of the federal controlled substances list.
"If any hemp product contains more than 0.3% THC meaning it is from a cannabis plant vs. a hemp plant, it is on federal Schedule I. A federal Schedule I violation is treated as a felony, if prosecuted, and depending on circumstances can carry a hefty fine and even jail time."
Additionally, New Mexico restricts sales to minors, so it would make sense for stations to observe the same kinds of rules that they do for alcohol advertisements, by keeping ads out of programming where a high percentage of the audience may be under the legal age.
But, as Attorney Melendres explains, "If care is exercised in determining the content of the product being advertised, the radio station should be OK. Checking the label on the product will be key."
