1.  Forget fireworks. SeaWorld wants to test 500 drones for a new nighttime light show in San Diego.

In a first for SeaWorld, the San Diego park plans to launch in February a limited-run light show using up to 500 drones, which could be a prelude to a regular nighttime summer attraction.  As the park looks to move away from fireworks, which are considered more damaging to the environment, it has proposed staging as a test run a drone show in February over a 15-night period. 

“Drones are the emerging major form of theme park entertainment,” said Dennis Speigel, president of Ohio-based International Theme Park Services. “Disney has major plans for them, Universal has major plans for them, and they already have patents on a lot of different drone approaches but are keeping them under wraps.  “You’re going to see them used throughout the entire entertainment industry, at football games, basketball games, stadiums, everywhere. In the industry, we’re excited about it.”

2.  SeaWorld Announces its 36,000th Animal Rescue; a Testament to an Enduring Commitment to Protect Wildlife

Skyline Attractions, a sales partner of Ride Entertainment, has announced the launch of its new Skywarp Orbit ride.  This new ride features a range of enjoyable elements, such as a cutback inversion, and negative g’s on the airtime hill. Furthermore, the ride has a very small footprint. As Chris Gray, Partner and Vice President says, “The small overall size lends well to fitting into tight spaces and budgets. 

4.  LEGOLAND Germany expands 2020 "LEGO Ninjago World"

The "LEGO Ninjago World" in LEGOLAND Germany should grow in 2020. The German LEGO amusement park promises a new attraction for the whole family.

5.  Legoland Florida unveils Florida Prepaid Schoolhouse attraction

A new attraction has opened at Legoland Florida Resort – the Florida Prepaid Schoolhouse, an indoor play area that invites younger guests to explore learning and future careers.  This new attraction was built in partnership between the Central Florida theme park and Florida Prepaid College Savings Plans. The Florida Prepaid Schoolhouse features a new entertainment stage, school-themed play equipment, Duplo brick play areas, and a touchscreen where kids can practice their numbers and letters while exploring future careers.

6.  10 most expensive Disneyland items in an auction featuring 1,500 theme park collectibles

An upcoming auction featuring hundreds of Disneyland items expected to fetch as much as $150,000 apiece will give hard-core Disney fans a chance to add a piece of the Anaheim theme park’s history to their personal memorabilia collections.  Van Eaton Galleries in Sherman Oaks will hold a history of Disneyland auction on Dec. 7 with a history of Disney World auction to follow on Dec. 8.

7.  Opening delayed for Cartoon Network Hotel next to Dutch Wonderland; announcement expected soon [photos]

The outside is done and construction is continuing on guest rooms, dining areas and entertainment sections of the Cartoon Network Hotel next to Dutch Wonderland, but an opening date has not been announced.  Originally slated to debut over the summer, the opening of the first hotel for the Cartoon Network has been delayed.

8.  Leave Your Wallet At Home: You Can Now Go Totally Cashless At Legoland Malaysia

With the emergence of e-wallets, more and more businesses or services are opting to go cashless.  Tolls around Malaysia have gone cashless, and recently, e-hailing app Grab has announced that they are implementing the cashless system in stages.  And the latest brand to go the cashless route is one that you would not expect, but they did: Legoland Malaysia is now totally cashless.

9.  Prices for Nickelodeon theme park are about to go up but a bunch of rides still don’t work

American Dream wants you to fork over eighty bucks to spend a Saturday with Sponge Bob, riding roller coasters at its indoor theme park.  The cost of admission for Nickelodeon Universe is increasing as much as $30 for some tickets beginning Friday. And -- as of mid-day Thursday -- almost a quarter of the rides weren’t working and food options at the park are still very limited.

10.  Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge ‘Wishing Tree’ loses ribbons at Walt Disney World

A part of Star Wars canon inside Star Wars: Galaxy’s Edge at Disney’s Hollywood Studios has been changed – the Wishing Tree by Savi’s Workshop.  Described in the Star Wars novel “A Crash of Fate” by Zoraida Cordova, the Wishing Tree is where Batuuans tie a piece of string or cloth along with a special wish. According to canon, if the string or cloth breaks off on its own, it’s believed that your wish has been granted.

11.  Which company is winning the theme park business right now?

It's been an... interesting year in the theme park business. A year ago, 2019 looked like it was going to be the year of Disney's Star Wars land. Well, that did end up being the big story of the year, but not for the reasons that Disney had hoped.  Disappointing attendance left the door open for Disney's competitors in 2019. So who took advantage? Which of America's top theme park companies has the best momentum going in the theme park industry right now?

12.  Flamingo Land slammed in Scottish Parliament Loch Lomond debate

FLAMINGO Land has come in for some stinging criticism in a Scottish Parliament debate over the company’s controversial plans for a major development on the banks of Loch Lomond.  The company withdrew a planning application in September for its ‘Lomond Banks’ proposals on the West Riverside and Woodbank House sites after more than 50,000 objections were lodged.

13.  Zamperla breathes new life into ship swing with "Galleon +"

Zamperla has reintroduced "Galleon +", gambling existing ship swing. This turns the passive ride on such an attraction into an interactive experience. Here, both halves of the boat compete against each other. During the journey, gesture recognition is used to measure how many people lift their hands or a "scream meter" measures the volume of the occupants.

14.  Interlink presents new product "Balloon Tower"

The British attraction manufacturer Interlink has added a new product to the portfolio with the "Balloon Tower". In addition, a new company logo and a new website were presented.

15.  Steam train at Disneyland Paris has been out of use for more than a year, but why?

Disneyland Paris visitors have not been able to ride the Disneyland Railroad steam train for more than a year. The iconic attraction has been closed to the public since November 5, 2018 . It is now mid-November 2019. Why is the train still standing still?

16.  Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park ready to ring in the season with 750,000 holiday lights

The Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park starts planning its Winter on the Mountain festivities long before the first snowfall arrives.   “It’s a pretty intricate process,” Bob Stepniewski, Glenwood Caverns Adventure Park food, beverage and entertainment manager, said. “We start that process even before Labor Day.”  This year, over 750,000 holiday lights will illuminate the adventure park, which perches 7,100 feet above sea level.

17.  Universal Studios Hollywood Holds 15th Annual “Day of Giving” Charity Event Benefiting Homeless Children

Thanksgiving may still be two weeks away, but that doesn’t mean it’s too early to give thanks to Universal Studios Hollywood, the popular Southern California theme park dedicated to giving back to its community each year. This morning Universal held its 15th annual “Day of Giving” philanthropic event in the parking lot next to the famous tourist destination and within the theme park itself.

18.  Ring in 2020 with New Year’s Eve events across Universal Orlando Resort

This year, guests at Universal Orlando will have their pick of parties to ring in 2020, thanks to New Year’s Eve events for all ages both inside the park and across the resort.

19.  $112K grant to help Conneaut Lake Park improve its picnic pavilions

A more than $112,000 state grant will help Conneaut Lake Park improve its picnic pavilions and potentially attract more business to the nonprofit amusement park.  Trustees of Conneaut Lake Park has been awarded a $112,300 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, according to state Sen. Michele Brooks and state Rep. Parke Wentling, whose districts include Crawford County.

20.  Rides 4-U will Debut Big Air Coaster at IAAPA Expo

New Jersey based Rides 4-U, one of the largest ride brokers in the United States, is set to showcase a giant display at the upcoming International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions show in Orlando.  Rides 4-U will represent products from several manufacturers including SBF/Visa International, KMG and Frederiksen Industries.

Following the launch back in May of an Omni Arena at Dave & Buster’s in Austin, Texas, Virtuix has installed a second virtual reality esports attraction at the FEC chain’s outlet in Houston.

6.  Former Sweepstakes Finds New Life as Kids' Fun Park

Froggy's Fun Park opened for business last Wednesday, replacing sweepstakes machines with fun activities like an indoor mini golf course, old-school arcade games and classic favorites like foosball, air hockey, poll and ski ball. 

7.  Fourth Dimension Fun Center to open by next summer

Fourth Dimension Fun Center will bring laser tag, bowling, an arcade, two escape rooms and a restaurant — all under one roof — to Frederick as soon as this summer.

8.  Autron VR: Hands-on with a virtual reality escape room

Virtual reality arcades are popping up around the world to give people a taste of that immersive experience, without forking out thousands of dollars for their own gear. Autron VR has just launched in Melbourne, Australia, with a range of shooting games, escape rooms and other VR experiences, all tailored for groups.

9.  New $7 Million Family Entertainment Center in San Antonio

Incredible Pizza Company is moving from its current location to a new store in southwest San Antonio on I-410 at Marbach.

10.  Spree Interactive’s free-roam VR comes to Sky Zone trampoline park in Louisiana

The VR solution allows up to 20 people at the same time to enjoy virtual reality experiences in an interactive and fun group setting, in what the German manufacturer calls: “The highest throughput location-based VR system on the market.”  

1.  Nashville Shores adds its 'biggest water slide' ever at the park — Mega Mayhem

Nashville Shores announced Thursday that it is adding Mega Mayhem, which they called the largest and most thrilling water slide addition in the history of the Percy Priest Lake water park.  The massive multi-million dollar family raft ride is scheduled to be part of opening day May 2, according to Larry Edgmon, general manager of Nashville Shores.

2.  Europa Park plans direct transport system to new water park Rulantica

The Europa-Park wants to connect its new adventure hotel "Krønasår" and the adjoining water park Rulantica in the future with the main park. Mack Rides is involved in the development of a transport system.

3.  Family of boy hurt at Cowabunga Bay agrees to $49M settlement

The family of a boy who nearly drowned in a wave pool at Cowabunga Bay and suffered lifelong injuries has reached a $49 million settlement with the Henderson water park.  Leland Gardner, who was 6 when he was submerged “for a lengthy period of time” in May 2015, has already incurred more than $900,000 in medical bills, according to the agreement reached last week.

4.  Raging Waves Opens 2020 Race Slide Tower "Aussie Mat Dash"

In the 2020 season, visitors to the Raging Waves water park should be able to use a new slide tower. The six water slides will be designed as racing slides.

5.  Ride the wave: County planners OK second water slide at Darien Lake

The “Wahoo Wave” water slide made a big splash with Genesee County planners on Thursday night as they recommended approval of the site plan for the state-of-the-art 60 foot attraction that will be coming to Darien Lake in the spring of 2020.

1.  A New York City-themed Aquarium Is Opening in the American Dream Mall — and We Got a Sneak Peek

Have you ever seen The Phantom of the Opera? How about “The Piranha of the Opera?”  The fish-themed show tune will become reality when the New York City-themed SEA LIFE Aquarium opens in the American Dream mall in New Jersey next year, welcoming visitors with an underwater Times Square and its ubiquitous fishy billboards.

2.  City and Zoo leaders work on plans to reopen facility

Leaders with the Jackson Zoo said the new zoo operations contract is in its final stages with the City of Jackson and members of zoOceanarium Group. They recently met for an informal pre-planning session.  Although no official decisions or timeline can be set without a contract in place with the city, the groups agreed that a revitalization project needed all the prep time available.

3.  Elephants at Tacoma zoo with tuberculosis won’t be treated

The two Asian elephants at Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium have tested positive for tuberculosis, according to zoo officials. Head zoo veterinarian Dr. Karen Wolf said elephants Hanako and Suki will not be treated for the disease.

4.  North Carolina Zoo announces 2nd chimpanzee birth this year

The North Carolina Zoo announced a new addition to the chimpanzee troop on Thursday.  On Tuesday, a healthy baby girl was born to chimp Amy. Both mother and baby are doing well and the baby started nursing quickly, the zoo said.

5.  New arrivals at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo: African Red River Hogs

Onondaga County Executive Ryan McMahon announced a new exhibit and its residents, two male red river hogs, at the Rosamond Gifford Zoo. The hogs are named Nile and Zambezi.

6.  Severn Lamb announces three new commissions in the UK

Severn Lamb, a leader in the manufacture and supply of leisure, resort and amusement transport, has announced three new commissions in the UK, at Colchester Zoo, Marwell Zoo and the National Railway Museum.

7.  7-month-old bobcat pounces into Oklahoma City Zoo as newest member

The Oklahoma City Zoo has welcomed a new member to their family!  7-month-old Dodger was rescued by the Montana Department of Fish, Wildlife and Parks before relocating to his new home at the Oklahoma City Zoo.

8.  Belgium Zoo Names Its New, Adorable Panda Twins

The Pairi Daiza Zoo in Belgium held a naming ceremony for its new baby panda twins on Thursday, 100 days after the adorable bears were born.

9.  Pair Of Red Panda Cubs Debut At Prospect Park Zoo

Two new residents are set to debut at the Prospect Park Zoo, and brace yourself, because they are very small — two tiny red pandas, red pandas who are just babies, and who are only now learning what it means to be outside. According to a press release, these twin boys were born in the summer and have been holed up in their indoor den, under the care of their mother, Willow. But now! Now they have reached adventuring age, and you can watch them scamper around in their outdoor habitat.

10.  Oakland Zoo Caring For Rescued Fennec Fox

The overall cuteness level at the Oakland Zoo recently increased by an immeasurable factor when a 6-year-old fennec fox named Summer came to stay.  Summer, who boasts enormous ears, a tiny nose and jet-black eyes, was brought to the zoo in September by a private owner who found he could no longer care for her, according to zoo officials.
