What do you love about working at UC Berkeley?
I love the collaborative and collegial work culture at UC Berkeley. Everyone is always so willing to share their knowledge and expertise with others, and it’s really mission-focused. I work in the IT administration of UC Berkeley, so I especially love being to help work on innovative solutions that transform the student, staff, and faculty experience across the entire campus.
You and several of your SIS colleagues recently received the Oracle Peoplesoft Innovator team award, congratulations! Can you tell us a little about it?
We were nominated for leading business transformation through the use of eForms (aka electronic forms) that helped automate critical processes involving complex coordination of review and approvals by various staff and faculty. The eForm processes we implemented helped drastically reduce the processing time of a typical request from potentially weeks to complete to mere minutes, thus improving the efficiency and quality of the student academic experience as well.
What tip would you pass on to other staff to thrive on campus?
Stay curious and be willing to help out on projects with people you don't typically work with and explore cross-unit opportunities. Also, strive to bring the best out of people you come across on campus like recognizing talent, common interests, and shared goals.
