The World Still Knows…
Advent Study on Wednesdays, December 11 and 18

For our Advent Soup and Supper Study (5:30pm-7pm),  we are exploring the mystery of the Christmas season through the poetry of Presbyterian poet and author Ann Weems. Through her poetry and musings we are “thinking about the season’s events in a creative and powerful way” as well how we can live out the good news of the Christmas story in our families, communities, and the world.  “If Christmas is not now, if Christ is not born into the everyday present, then what is all the noise about?”  (Quotes from Kneeling in Bethlehem)

Our Advent suppers begin at 5:30pm, but please come when you are able—there is always plenty of hot soup and warm fellowship.  For more information contact Nancy Long at j2nlong@comcast.net or 893-3682.

Below here are some haiku offerings from our study from this last week:
JEFFERSON STREET SIDEWALKS

We are on the city's schedule for sidewalk replacements, with work beginning Monday, December 9.  Traffic will be allowed, but there will be no parking on Jefferson Street.  We appreciate your patience and flexibility as our sidewalks get a much-needed facelift!

Ideas on How to Reduce, Recycle, and Reuse Clothing

So you’ve gathered up all your old college jeans and dresses, and now you want them out of your house. But first things first: Is it possible that someone in your local circle wants them? Clothing swaps are a great way to send your old stuff off to a loving home, catch up with friends, and get something new for yourself.

“That’s the first step—think about whether you can regift an item without even involving any kind of outlet for items that you know have resale value,” Hoover advises.

If you’re planning a swap event, consider timing it around a common clothes-buying occasion—say, before the kids head back to school in late summer, as you get ready for Halloween in the fall (costume-swap, anyone?), or during wedding season, when evening wear may be in high demand.

In the Community
Wreaths and Notecards from Pacem in Terris

Immediately following the service this Sunday you can purchase a wreath in the Church School Hall - come and support a good cause!

Our full, lush wreaths are made from fragrant balsam pine grown in the state of Maine. They are large—about 24 inches in diameter—and double-sided, so they can be hung in a window, showing their beauty inside and outside.  The front of the wreath is decorated with a red ribbon with the words, “Peace on Earth”, a cluster of pine cones, and two beautiful doves— one of which is hand-painted by artisans in Southern Mexico and the other a dove made from sheet music. Both double as tree ornaments.  Every wreath sold will benefit Pacem in Terris and support activities for peace and social justice in our community and throughout our world. Purchase your Wreath for Peace here.

Also available:  New Cards for Peace!

Cards for Peace are a set of ten different and stunningly beautiful artworks taken from Pacem’s Youth Peace Art Program. Each image is accompanied by a caption by the artist explaining their work. Sets of 10 cards with envelopes. More details at here.  $20 per set.

Blessed be your journey . . .
