Our Mission:
The Block Nurse Program link older adults in the Como Park/Falcon Heights area with community resources, using staff and volunteers.  Our services support independence, increase opportunities for socialization and promote safety for adults as they age.

Meet Bill Rasmussen, author of this month's
Health Minute:
Spending The Holidays Solo – With Great Remembrances
Many of us spend a great deal of time over the holidays by ourselves.  This can bring on a touch of the blues, but blues can be combatted with a source of happiness and contentment.  This comes by recalling fond memories of your families and friends that you have come to Love and cherish!  We can also kindle a flame of excitement and think of 2020 as a year of making new friends and having fun!  I’ll borrow the title of one of Frank Sinatra’s songs addressing life: “The Best Is Yet To Come!”
  • To brighten your day, here are subjects for reminiscing during the holidays:
  • Technology: How has technology changed your world in the past 60 years?
  • Teachers: Who were your favorite and least favorite teachers?
  • The 1960s: What were you doing? Which songs were you singing? Which TV shows did you watch?
  • Nutrition: What was the food like in the past? Did people go on diets?
  • High-School Days: Were there bullies? How about drugs, gangs, nerds, peer pressure, rock & roll and cars?
  • Winter comforts: What are the best comforts of winter? Food, clothes, activities?
  • Old Time Radio: Which radio ads do you remember best? Palmolive, Coty. How about radio plays? Avengers, Benny Goodman, Buck Rogers, Dad and Dave?
  • Bedtime stories: What were your favorite stories? Were there any stories you were afraid of? Who told you stories when you were a child?
  • Road Trip Memories: When was your first time in a big city or first time on a farm. Did anyone say: “Are we there yet?”
  • Children’s pastimes: What sort of games did you play? Great TV shows? Comic strips magazines? Movie matinees?
  • Medication: What was the most popular cough syrup. How often did people go to hospital? Were babies born at home? Did homemade remedies work or were they just 'old wives tales'?
  • Vintage Hollywood Movies: What were our favorite movies and who were your favorite movie stars?
  • Saturday Matinee Serials: Do you remember Zorro? The Adventures of Captain Marvel? Flash Gordon? Sherlock Holmes? How about the episodes which ended in scary cliffhangers?
Have you ever wanted to be an actor?  Are you over 55 and interested in giving it a try? Then, Theatre 55 is the place for you. It provides a wide spectrum of acting experiences in a nurturing environment. Auditions for RENT are taking place as soon as December 9, 10 & 11.
