Dear Readers,
Here we are at the end of 2019. I hope you can look back and reminisce on good memories not only of this year but of this decade as we bid it farewell.
So, what happened in the last 10 years?
Here’s a sample:

April 2010: The first iPad came out.

April 2011: Millions tuned in to watch a royal wedding.

July 2011: We said goodbye to Harry Potter.

December 2012: People thought the world would end; if you are reading these words, it did not end!
-
September 2013: "What Does the Fox Say?" became a YouTube sensation. I know, it will ring in your ears again :)
-
And, last but definitely not least, one of our very own STC members at large, Gabriela (Gabby) Pascuzzi, was a team player in the 37th season of the long-running show "Survivor."

Our last, but definitely not the least, webinar of the year was about MadCap Flare and how it is designed to streamline content management. Our presenter, Jennifer Morse, Director of Product Evangelism at MadCap Software, not only walked us through Flare’s latest features but also highlighted the value of using structured authoring. The webinar attendees varied from avid Flare users to those who were curious to see what Flare adds to a writer's toolkit.

Like every year, the North Texas Lone Star STC Chapter will host a year-end event to celebrate our members, dedicated volunteers, and the holiday season. Come join us as you meet old friends and make new ones while you enjoy a banquet meal.

As we turn our attention to our 2020 programs, we invite you to consider joining our leadership team. We have the following positions available:
Council Member
Serve as a member of our council. Join in on the planning of events and help us determine the direction of the chapter. Commitment is one hour council meetings on the second Tuesday of every month. Of course we hope you’ll volunteer to head up committees when available.
2nd VP
Serving as our 2nd Vice President puts you in succession for the role of President. You’ll spend 2 years serving as a VP to learn the ins and outs of our chapter. If serving as the President is something you want, join the succession and start learning how we function as a chapter.

Did You Present at a Conference in 2019?

We are working on our application for the STC Community Achievement Award (CAA) and may periodically ask for help from our members to demonstrate what an active chapter we are and what valuable members we have.
If you are a member of our chapter and you were a presenter at an STC regional conference, the STC Summit, or any relevant non-STC conference in 2019, please let us know. Send your first and last name, the name of the conference, and the presentation topic/title to secretary@stcdfw.org to help us earn points for the award. |

Have you heard about STC’s Body of Knowledge? The mission is “to develop and implement a single knowledge source that concentrates and delivers all that is technical communication – in short, a Technical Communication Body of Knowledge (TCBOK).” https://www.tcbok.org/
In an effort to help create a complete resource for all things related to the field and practice of technical communication, STC has chartered a volunteer project to develop the (TCBOK).
As a volunteer-powered project, it is essential to identify experienced technical communicators, educators and instructors, and students that are willing to help populate the TCBOK. If you would like to be a part of the team that is constructing what will become globally recognized as the definitive online resource for information on the profession, please email Volunteer4BoK@stc.org.
