Wine Spot Team Spotlight

Claire

Years with The Wine Spot:
2 years in March

A little bit about yourself: I grew up in Wooster, Ohio and moved to Cleveland Heights in 2014 after graduating from Miami University with a degree in Dietetics. I have worked several different jobs since moving here that have all lead me to wine/beer in one way or the other and my knowledge and passion for wine and beer have grown with each new adventure. I honestly thought I was going to hate moving to Cleveland but after one year in Cleveland Heights I fell in love with the community, the culture, and the people. I currently live with my two cats, and you will frequently see me buzzing around Lee road.

Favorite Wine or Beer, why? I gravitate naturally to crisp, refreshing white wines like Sancerre, Albarino, and Gewurztraminer. I think it is because I love wines that keep my palate feeling fresh. Lately however you can find my trying every red varietal and loving Malbecs from Argentina, and red blends. I didn’t know a lot about beer when I first started working at Wine Spot, but after passing my level one Cicerone Beer Server certification I found a love for New England Style IPAs, Double and Triple IPA's, and Sours.

Fun Fact: I started my relationship with the Wine Spot about 6 years ago as a runner with the North Coast Beer runners. This group and this establishment introduced me to all sorts of wonderful people and permanently made me want to stick around in Cleveland. I am very thankful to have stumbled upon this running group and the staff here. If you are a runner and you like beer, the North Coast Beer Runners is the group for you. They meet every Tuesday & Thursday at 6:30 and all running levels/distances/paces are welcome. (You are welcome for the free PSA David Burns). I may not be running with the group but I’ll be there to serve you a nice cold beer after.

I'm also WSET I and Cicerone Level I Certified.

Up next week: Ender

Adam's Wines of the Week

La Grande Vignolle
Saumur-Champigny

Loire Valley, France
100% Cabernet Franc

La Grande Vignolle sits on a chalk cliff on calcareous clay soils, set back from the Loire River on a high plateau. The vines are 35-40 years old and lie at the northern limit of the Saumur-Champigny appellation. The fruit is hand-harvested, destemmed and fermented with natural yeasts in steel tank. The wine is aged in steel tank and is the one exception to the house practice of gentle filtration: long ago at the request of their American importers, Joe Dressner and Denyse Louis, the wine makers agreed to bottle this wine without any filtration.

We've been waiting a long time for these wines and they are finally here - This wine is among the first LOUIS/DRESSNER Selections available in Ohio. Availability is limited, so come on by soon to try this great wine! And remember, our LOUIS/DRESSNER Selection tasting is Saturday, December 14 from 5-7pm.

Enjoy! Adam
