2019 Thanksgiving Message
Dear Friends and Supporters,
The winter of 1620/21 was a brutal one for the Pilgrims as they lay at anchor off what was to become Plymouth Village. They were living in cramped quarters on board the Mayflower without sufficient resources to support a healthy life. Scurvy, malnutrition, disease and exposure took their toll leaving just half of them alive for that first spring in the New World.
Life aboard the Mayflower was not sustainable. If the Pilgrims were going to survive they must learn how to take advantage of nature's bounty on shore. Fortunately, they were to meet Squanto, a Native American member of the Pawtuxet tribe. Squanto taught the Pilgrims how to cultivate corn, extract sap from maple trees, catch fish in the rivers and avoid poisonous plants. He taught them how to live sustainably and with that new understanding they survived.
In November of 1621, they celebrated this survival with a celebratory feast which is widely considered America’s first Thanksgiving.
There are many more people on the planet today than there were during the time of the Pilgrims. We have duplicated and extended the challenges faced aboard the Mayflower to such an extent that they are now global in scale and nature. Squanto’s lessons are as relevant today as they were four hundred years ago. Live sustainably and use the vast gifts of the planet in a healthy and respectful manner.
At Envision Solar we are committed to producing products which will allow human beings to enjoy security, comfort and plenty without contributing to the destruction of our environment.
This Thanksgiving we give thanks for the opportunity to play an outsized role in providing a path towards a healthy and sustainable life for the people of this great country; a people who have survived and flourished through learning how to adapt and grow and lead the world in peace and prosperity.
Happy Thanksgiving to all our friends and supporters.
